  • SSI Question

I finally called the Social Security yesterday and I did a telephone interview with a gentleman. He told me that i made too much to get SSI i could only get disablity, So I have a meeting on May 25 at 10:00 am.
And I was fired from my job today. They called me at around 2:30 and fired me over the phone because i was on a medical leave, and they could legally fire me and they needed some one that could work and not have all the medial problems. I am so depressed now........I knew it was coming but i was really hoping that it wouldn't happen.
Anyway I am supposed to get all this informatin ready for my appt with SS and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long it will take to hear back from them after the meeting.

Are you trying to apply for disability? I think from what I read you have to be off work for a full year before you can apply for disability? I THINK if you haven't been off work for a year they will just deny you on the spot? I'm sure someone with some more experience will give you a lot more info.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

No, you can apply for SSD the first day you stop work (but not while you're working). Benefits won't be paid for the first six months out of work. But it generally takes more than six months to process a claim anyway, so very few people have to wait for their benefits to kick in.

Letters from doctors, stating that you are medically unable to work, can help your case a lot.

After you have your intake interview, you'll receive some written questions from the Disability Determination people, and after that the average wait is around six months; longer in some places and shorter in others.
Je vous souhaite de la joie, de la bonne santée, et tout ce qu'il y a de bon dans la vie.
Wishing you happiness and good health, and all the best out of life.

      Peace, Carolyn
