I can hardly believe this myself but want to share a tremendous success story that may give you all hope. On March 12, 2002 I visited Social Security for the first time and today, May 11, 2002, only two months later, I received a letter from Social Security advising me that I have been approved for Disability for Interstitial Cystitis!!!!!! They never called me, asked me any questions...nothing. The checks start next month!!
There are 5 things that I can think of that may have helped.
1. I am 60 years old, so they don't have to think about benefits coming out of their pocket for a many years.
2. I live in a small state which is easier to deal with than say California or NY.
3. I purchased the Disability Kit from the ICA prior to going to my March 12 visit and from that information I prepared extensively.
I took copies of some of my tests and operative reports with me that I already had at home, I used my computer (not hand written) and answered all the questions on the sample forms the ICA provided in the kit. When they pulled out a form for me to fill out..I just handed them my computer generated answer for her to attach.
4. The ICA sent me a publication "Disability Evaluation in a Nutshell" that had a sample letter to give to your doctor so that he/she would know how to write a letter to Social Security on my behalf. I took that letter and wrote in in the first person (from myself)and gave it to Disability when I applied.
5. They also included pamphlets explaining IC and a letter to Social Security explaining IC. I took them with me and submitted them in my file.
Can you believe it!!!! Two months from my first visit and the checks will start rolling in!!!
There is hope for all of you!
Feel free to email me if you think I can help you.
