  • Any thoughts on representation???

    Hello,

I took the leap and started the social security disability process! I have an in person interview on Jan 5th.

I was doing some research on what I need and came across an advertisement for a national law firm. I typed in my info and they called me back. I'm not sure what to do. It's not the 25% of my retro that they take, if I win that bothers me. (Don't get me wrong I need the money, but I'll be thankful just to get disability started.) I just wonder if the whole idea of representation is premature? or should I have a lawyer at this point? Any thoughts I am so confused! This probably sounds stupid but I almost think having a lawyer now makes me look guilty or something. eek

I wouldn't hire an attorney right away. Some people have been successful the first time without an attorney. Why give them 25% if you don't need to. I would save the attorney for the appeal if it comes to that. Be sure to send away for all the disability information from the ICA. That is very helpful.

I wouldn't hire an attorney right now because you can do all the work he/she will do and you won't have to give up the 25%. I lost on my original application (I expected to) and when I filed my appeal I blasted them with IC articles. The side effects of my meds etc etc and I won.

Did they tell you that you could have your interview over the phone? For me, that was more comfortable because I wasn't as nervous as I would have been in person.

wishing you the very very best of luck blink
