  • Disability Approved!!!!!

I wanted to let everyone know that I received a call from my disability case worker that my disability was approved. I applied on February 19th, 2003 and the six months will be up August 19th. I am soooo excited and relieved. It is almost 2:00 am and I cant sleep that I am so keyed up. I got turned down the first time and then appealed. I did get in touch with my state governor and he forwarded the letter on to the appropriate politicians that dealt with disability issues. After that I received several letters from our state house of delegate member and he kept track of every step that disability was going through as far as my case. He was very helpful. My disability case worker (this time) was great. He called this morning and said that he normally didnt make calls on disabilty approval but made an exception in my case. He read my records thorougly, everything and I had his total support but he wasnt sure how the doctors would react. I think that one of the most useful things that I had for my case was a wonderful primary case physician that wrote seveal letters for my disability. Also, I wrote about IC from when I was diagnosed and how it had changed my life and the dreadful, painful symptoms that I have. My case workers said that the only thing that could happen is that the feds randomly review 1 out of every 5 case, by the last 4 digits from SS numbers. I told him that he had no idea what terrible luck that I have but he wasnt concerned - like he said, if he were he would have never called. I want to thank everybody on this site who have given me so much support. I dont think that I have gotten through this without all of you. I feel like the weight of the world has been taken from my shoulders. Keep trying everyone. I was fortunate enough that the disability staff went to a educational seminar last week on IC so they all had a better understanding of what we all go through. Thank you again - and those of you that are applying DONT GIVE UP! Susan

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

Well, you know how I mentioned that the Social Security could pick one case out of 5 for review at the federal level - guess what - my bad luck continues. I got pulled. I found out this morning from my SS case worker and then I called my state case worker. He was not aware that it has been pulled. He said that the chief medical consultant had reviewed my case and he said that he rarely does that. Usually he is only called up to review cases that the doctors have a conflict of decision. He said that he has seen case decisions reversed at this level but he said that since my case was reviewed by this physician if it gets reversed that there is something terribly wrong with the system. Well - some things are better left unsaid about "the system." Anyway, at his recommendation, I have contacted my US Congressman that has been so helpful to me and asked that he contact the SSA and see if he cant get my file "front lined." This means the difference in about 2 days of getting my payment options set up for my checks to another 4-6 week wait to see if there is a reversal of the decision, etc. I went from feeling like the weight of the world was taken from my shoulders to being in a terrible flare and more worry about the outcome of this. Dont count your chickens before they hatch I guess. I just figured that my string of bad luck that I seemed to have had all of my life surely would give me a break at some point. Anyway, I will keep you all updated as to the final decision. One piece of advise that I give everyone that is applying. Get in touch wit your local House of Representative, Senator, Congressman, etc. for help. I think that it is a big plus and hopefully it will be helpful once again in my case. Susan
