  • Anyone here have a disability parking sticker for IC?

Wanting to know if anyone here has a placard for disability parking. The IC sometimes causes pain so intense it's painful to walk. Sometimes I ride in my friend's car as a passenger and the IC will suddenly flareup and make it hard to walk.

Songbird, the only thing that I have from ICA is blue card stating that I have IC and I use that when I am in line at the ladies room. But you can get an application from the Registery of Motor Vehicles and you need to have a written statement from your physician. In Mass.it is a large plastic card(like your license)with your picture on it and you place on the inside of the windshield.I hope that this has been of some help to you.Good luck, delores

Thanks for answering. I have the DMV form and I will ask my doctor. I just wondered as IC can be invisible to others sometimes.

I had one of these for awhile. Each state's DMV has slight variations on this. I live in CA. My Dr and I filled out paperwork and I got a sign (to hang on my mirror) for 6 months. It was a great thing. I need to get another one! Too bad it's so hard to get a permanent one.
Hope your doc and DMV cooperate!
        take care,

Songbird, I have a permanent disability placard here in Northern CA, but I had it before IC. When you get one, you can take it with you in other people's cars. It is registered to YOU, so if someone else takes you to the doctor, shopping, or wherever, you just hang your placard on the other person's inside mirror & still park in the handicap parking. You need it for YOU and it's okay to use in any car you're riding in.

Almost always, by the time I have driven anywhere, I wind up walking funny anyway, because riding in a car makes my IC worse. I'm sure noone even thinks about it because of that. If you're in pain after riding in the car, but able to walk normally, then that IS a hard situation because of the invisible disability.

I'm sure your doc will fill out the necessary form for you to get the placard. It's been a lifesaver for me. Once I drive somewhere, I could never park way down an isle & be able to walk all the way up to the store & then all the way to the bathroom. Without the handicap parking spots, I'd never make it to the nearest bathroom in time.

I hope you can get one soon. It can certainly help things, and for some ICers, it can make the difference between being able to go out or not. Good luck.

            Much love,
            Carol

Songbird, yes I have a card. I use it when I need it. My GP gave it to me for the multiple illnesses. You can print the form off the computer and take it to your dr....good luck teri

Went to the Urologist today for DMSO and asked him to fill out the form for the disability card. He refused and said it is an issue for me to take up with the pain clinic I am going to. This is very disappointing. It is not time to go to the pain clinic yet and the insurance is stingy with referrals. I told the urologist it hurts to walk many times and that was his response. Sheesh, all he had to do is fill in about a sentence or less on the form.

I know it's discouraging, but please keep fighting for this. If you've been to the pain clinic already, would you be able to contact someone there to work on this over the phone? I don't know if that's possible, but I thought I'd suggest it.

I'll make an appointment at my pain clinic next month because I need it anyway and I'll bring in the form. Thanks for the encouragement. I don't understand why doctors are so unsupportive sometimes. I just can't understand that kind of thinking.
