I just applied for disability. Had a few more questions. I will need the medicaid insurance and since I've been out of work for a few years, I think I could get it without waiting. My question is does anyone know how much this costs monthly? If it's too expensive can we keep our current health insurance. I got a letter from S.S. office estimating what I would earn per month if I was disabled now. Is that figure accurate? This is the letter that comes out quarterly. Thanks for all your help. I'm trying to research this.

My quarterly statement was pretty much what I ended up getting monthly. (I actually got more than my statement said I would???) I am not sure about medicare, you don't qualify for that with SSDI until 2 years from the date they declare you disabled. I am not at that point yet. I worry about the cost of it too, you can keep your insurance you have and add medicare. I hear a lot of people talk about the "doughnut hole" which is when you run out of perscription coverage on medicare each year. I don't know if it would be worth the cost or not.
I was never the "bread winner" of the family so I don't get a lot of money but it ends up close to what I used to bring home after taxes and insurance when I was working.
As far as medicaid, I am sure you would qualify for that if you qualify for SSI which is through your state. That is based on income level.
That is about the extent of my knowledge on those things. Maybe someone that used medicare will share with us how it works.
