  • Applying for state and federal disability at the same time?

Has anyone done this? Anything I need to know? I am having trouble finding answers online but my dr. is going to help me apply for the state portion. In the meantime I'm going to submit a federal application online but I wasn't sure if it's okay to file for both at once or if there is a waiting period? I tried talking with an attorney to make sure I'm filling out the paperwork right but they want me to wait until I'm denied before they get involved. I'm confused as to what date to list as "disabled" since I've made two attempts to return to work and my hours are very limited.. in which case I may not even qualify for the state portion. Thanks for any experience you can provide.
The combo of things that brought me out of remission were artificial sweetners, liquid vitamins with citric acid, tight pants, lower body workouts and stopping all my allergy meds cold turkey during height of allergy season. I wish I knew back then what I know now about IC
First IC symptoms Spring of 2000; In-office cystoscopy 2002 -negative; Remission until 2007 (yeah!!); Negative PST spring of 2007; IC diagnosed via Cystoscopy and Hydrodistention 7/24/07; Another In-office cystoscopy 4/9/10 with biopsy showed inflammation
Treatments for my IC/PFD: Elmiron 400 mg per day; walking, Zyrtec, Claritin, Singulair, Neurontin 100 mg per day; Ice packs and laying down; About to try Cytotec
Tried and Failed: Heat (always makes me worse!), Heparin instills -too painful for my urethra; Atarax (interfered with my quality of sleep first time, second time dried my bladder out; Elavil makes me sick, lidocaine patches (just plain don't work), Cystoprotek (only tried a couple months but didn't seem to do much), Aloe Vera caps, pelvic floor therapy, trigger point work flared me worse, Lyrica (bad stomach pain)
Other Diagnoses: PFD 2009; Fibromyalgia 2006, Osteopenia 2012, GERD 2006, Gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying) Anxiety: Other medications: Ambien, Dexilant, Ibuprofren, Necon 1/35, Voltaren gel for tailbone

I did notice you had not gotten a response, but I decided I would respond now. I worked as a state employee over 15 straight years. OK. I finally went out on retirement disabilty. (and approved in 5 weeks) By the way, I have been on it 3 years by now.(February, 2011) OK. I went to the local SSA administration to apply to try to get SSD during that same month.(3 years ago) By the way, the last time that I ever hit the time clock was November 29, 2010. Of course, I was denied a couple of times on my disability case, but I went in front of a judge back in November. OK. I ended up getting an approval letter, along with the 9 page report from the judge, 65 days later. (last month) (no back pay so far) Geez! I did see how much I will make each month.(gross)($971.90) If it really matters much, I do make $555 each month from the state. Of course, $211 is taken away due to insurance. Oh, well! I don't know what kind of job that you did last.(or still do)(or length of time) At least, I am being honest now.(whether or not it helps much) Oh! I am listed as being disabled ever since November 29 of 2010. Also, I deal with degenerative disc disease, arthritis, fatigue, spinal stenosis, and whatever else. OK. The "whatever else" part would be like glaucoma and gastritis and hiatal hernia that did not help my case any.( though we still had reports from the 2 doctors) Ok. I walk with a cane and use a handicap placard as well. Yep.

I don't see any reason you shouldn't file for both at the same time.
