My pharmacy just informed me that they are no longer able to get Utira-C. I take both Utira-C and Elmiron twice a day for my IC. Can anyone give me some suggestions on alternative medications for the Utira-C to discuss with my doctor? I have tried going without the medication, but I quickly suffer from painful flare-ups and spasms. I'm waiting for my doctor to call me back to discuss an alternative medication, but I would like to be informed of some options to discuss with her.

If you are having spasms, the best thing is a low dose of valium to relax the vaginal area. Or vaginal suppository of valium. I know thats helped me in the past. Even some ibuprofen helps. Def. talk to your uro, they should have lots of alternative meds for you to try!Karen

This is odd, I couldn't find UTA at any pharmacy, but they had Utira-C, so my doc had to change the rx. Crazy stuff. I hate that the Elmiron is hard to find too, because I am only in month 2 on it, so I don't know if it will help. It hasn't done much yet, still in lots of pain.

tramadol or Ultram
Tramadol Was the first alternative my pharmacist suggested. Then my pain doctor suggested the same. Ultram is the brand name. It feels about the same as Darvocet when blocking pain. I have a very mild floaty feeling from it if I overlap the doses, but it doesn't effect my productivity. Darvocet gave me no high at all, even with a double dose. That's why I liked it! Tramodol is meant to last 12 hours. My thyroid makes my metabolism is high, so every eight hours works for me, Start with 2 a day. You will be happy with it. VERY EFFECTIVE. Good luck.

P.S. You need a script each month for it. No refills are given.
