Has anyone taken Neurontin for their IC (It helps with nerve pain)? My new doc put me on it, and I read about some possible side effects that sound pretty bad. I guess most prescriptions have risks though.

I was on it prior to pregnancy I loved it.. I will go back on it when I have my son! it truly does help with some of the pain.. not all of it... neuropathic pain is what happens to us when we havent gotten proper treatment for the pain we are in.. it sucks alot... I hate it.. knowing that my body will likely not be the same ever again sucks!

I started with one pill on Sunday night and another pill on Monday night. It worked so well, I felt like I had died and gone to heaven. No pain, and no peeing every single minute. Unfortunately, I felt like I was losing my mind, and probably could not tell you my name, address, or phone number if asked. A very scary feeling, I had to stop it.

Vanilla,
Maybe you could speak to your doctor about cutting the dose.
Not to compare you to our dog, but he takes Neurontin in a tiny dog dose and tolerates it fairly well,(it does make him sleepy). Of course, he couldn't tell me his name before he started the medicine, so it's hard to tell how much it's actually affecting him!

Each pill had 300 mg. It does seem excessive, as I noticed in most signatures on this forum the daily dose is 300, whereas this doctor wanted me to start one pill once a week and then 2 pills for the second week and 3 pills by the third week, with a grand total of 900 mg of Neurontin daily. He told me some of his patients take 4000 mg a day. I couldn't imagine taking that much. I wouldn't be able to find my way out of paper bag. Seriously! I told my GP, and he said, well it's not like you're popping tic tacs.
Bubble thanks for the suggestion but I don't think Neurontin is for me.

I can definitely see why that would make you so out of it. Eveything negative I read about it was from people who were taking really high doses (ie 1000mg-4,000mg/day). Fortunately, I'm only on 200mg /day, and was directed to take it a bed time, so I haven't had anything like that happen....yet. I appreciate your feedback! Take care.

For Neurontin I am taking 900mg daily. When I was taking it awhile back it was 1800mg. The doctor wants me to go back up there to that amount as yes he told me some patients take quite a bit of it. But with Cymbalta there is no way that I can do more than the 900 as I get loopy; and with the hot weather we are having by the time I get home I am so tired that I fall asleep before 7:00

Yeah I think I might need to up the dosage because I haven't had any pain relief since I started taking it. I have noticed that I don't have to go to the bathroom near as much, but I would rather not be feeling pain! I'm also taking Uribel. It helps some with pain, but not completely. The only thing that takes away the pain is lortab, and I hate having to take those everyday.
