Oh no... When I saw your post I remembered your dog died recently. Was Duchess eating any of the brand names recalled - wet dog foods???

My heart goes out to all of the folks who lost there loved pets, especially from tainted pet food. It's sooooo sad.

Duchess was eating "Wellness" pet food and "Dogswell" treats.... I don't see those names on the list but I'm still VERY suspicious of it, because it just seems too coincidental that the week she died of rat poisoning was also the week that all that food was recalled.

Is it up to the pet food company to admit their food is tainted and needs to be recalled, or is there a national pet food regulation company that recalls it?

I'm not certain how this all came about, but the dog food company spokesperson says they are now testing all of the ingredients. Sometimes I have felt that we should give our Meggie canned food, but I'm very glad we decided not to.

One name that they added to the list (according to my vet) was Mighty Dog foil packs (not the cans).

Had to take my puppy because she refused to eat for a few days, wouldn't walk, and had some nasty diareah. She was fed several brands from the list. They did blood work, stool and urine samples, and took her temp (she REALLY hated that). She had a high fever but her kidneys/liver were fine. Turns out she had Lyme disease. We have since been giving her chicken, rice and baby food (people food) and her 3 week course of Doxicyclin for the Lyme infection.

                  Medical "Issues":
                  IC
                  GERD
                  Tachycardia(resting rate is 125-130 )
                  Medicastions:
                  Tramadol-as needed (IC)-50mg
                  Elmiron 200mg twice a day
                  Levsin .125mg 1-2 pills 4 times a day

My cat was eating Chicken Cuts in Gravy by Hills Science Diet. He is 20 years old, and I freaked when I saw the recall of Hill's Science Diet because they recalled this food after the original recall, and I already purchased a few more cans thinking this food was okay. I check the lot no. on the can and it didn't match the recalled lots on the website. I was freaking out because my cat also has been vomitting, but he can do that once in a while because he is extremely old. As a precaution I threw every Iams food, wet or dry out, and threw out the cuts and gravy Science Diet. So far he looks okay, but I'm still really leary of buying wet food, but my cat Tigger has to have it because he is so old, and gets dehydrated, and doesn't eat enough dry. This thing has really made a lot of people anxious. I hope they find out the source of the rat poison.

I'm sorry Sacausa about your pet Duchess.

                      Which is why.....

Have any of you ever read the filler list on a can of commercial pet food? I have seen chicken bills, feathers, ground carpet, bark, sawdust, hooves and any number of gross things. Which is exactly why we never, ever fed our little Ginger any commercial pet food. She ate canned people food plus vegetables and brown rice. One day turkey, then chicken, then sardines, then organic hamburger, sometimes if we had grilled fish she would eat that.
She also loved popcorn with butter on it, and ice cream, her two favorite junk foods. She lived to be 19 years old, had all her own teeth, strong heart, strong kidneys, some arthritis in her back. One day she just had a stroke and died. She was a Lhapso Aphso and the sweetest dog I ever owned, I still mourn her.

Meds: Melatonin 3mg @ bedtime if needed. Estrogen 1.5 mg troche and 0.1 mg Estrace cream.
Diagnosis: IC, PFD (both in remission)

My sister and I took hers back on Friday afternoon to Walmart-- didn't have a receipt so we got a gift card. It helped her a lot as she had to buy food for her grandkids -- I bought dry dog food for her dogs. Its a shame-- first peanut butter (she (my sister got sick from that) and now dog food--luckily, her dog didn't get sick from that!!) Rat poison! read that in the paper yesterday afternoon. My heart goes out to the people here and all over who lost their "babies" .
