I am very proud of the fact that the ICN employs only patient with IC and/or pelvic pain. When other people are losing their jobs due to their disabilities, I'm really tickled that we can atleast offer some modest working hours. More importantly, it takes an IC'er to understand the needs of another IC'er. The insight we each have to share helps to make the ICN responsive to the ever changing needs of the IC community and, of course, to the daily realities of life with a completely unpredictable bladder at times.
Similarly, I'm really proud of the fact that everything we sell is made or produced by American companies and, in several cases, women owned small businesses.
- Our microwaveable heating pads, Christina's Garden, are handmade with herbs grown in our county by a young woman who, at the age of 21, works harder than most of the people I know. She defies the claim that her generation is the "entitlement" generation. I've never seen a woman work so hard, study so hard AND also manages an amazing garden, the produce from which gets sold at local Farmers Markets through the Red Owl Cooperative. Thank you Christina! You are amazing!!!! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Red-O...38380226232713
- The carob products are made by two women owned businesses. Queen Bee Gardens, the makers of fantastic carob truffles and english toffee, is located in Wyoming. Dollie's Delectable carob candy (my personal favorite) are made in North Carolina.
- Our low acid jams and jellies come from Colorado Mountain Jams and Jellies. Desert Harvest Aloe is also located in Colorado.
- The supplements that we sell are all USA based businesses, including Prelief, Cystoprotek, Desert Harvest Aloe, etc.
- The wonderful IBS products, Heather's Tummy Care, are located in Washington.
- The organic pear bars are from Gorge Delights in Oregon..
and the list goes on! You can find many more in our shop at: http://www.icnsales.com
I'm also proud that we can help IC entrepreneurs make a living. In the new IC Awareness Month campaign, we feature two ICers making awareness products like bracelets and bookmarks. Julie Beyer and Bev Laumann have both written fabulous books about the IC diet. I started the ICN that now supports tens of thousands of patients and helps put food on the table for about six families. If you're an entrepreneur, please send me an email and let's talk. I'd like to support you if I can! [email protected]
In these very unsettled times, we have to watch out for each other, support each other and nurture our businesses and the American economy. Thus, I urge you, rather than buy from Amazon.Com or your big box stores, please buy from your local book stores and businesses. Also please support your fellow IC patients... some of whom sell Avon, sell soaps, sell homemade goods and, in our case, offer IC support.
