Re: Wine, Beer, Spirits & IC - Survey Reveals Surprisingly Results

Oh, I forgot to say, that being male, when I go out to public bars / restaurants, I look really odd drinking white wine. All of my friends make fun of me. But what can I say.
Main IC symptom for me is Frequency.

    July 2015 to present
    Eliminated most IC meds
Went down from 2 Elmiron (200 mg) to 1 and 1/2 each day (150mg)
Eliminated Elavil - 20mg (Before bedtime),
Eliminated Oxybutynin - 1 pill (5 mg) every three days
I'm doing fine with just elmiron!

    December 2012 to Present.
With meds (read below) and bladder retraining, I've been able to live life normally again. Visit the restroom every 4-7 hours (instead of every 5 mins). However, I still flare every once in a while, due to stress, trying a new food, pain medication that I take for migraines, or sometimes for no reason at all.

IC Diet - Started October 2011
I follow the diet 100% and ONLY drink water.

    IC meds (started October 2011)
    2 Elmiron - 100 mg each , Elavil - 20mg (Before bedtime), Oxybutynin - 1 pill (5 mg) every three days

I have also heard that merlot is another lower acid wine for ICers. I stick with vodka and gin because I'm a martini girl. :-) I usually have a few drinks on the weekends if my bladder is feeling ok. I too have had that happen where the alcohol makes me better for a few days. So hard to understand IC sometimes!
      Jane
      Diagnosed 1/7/14 via cysto/hydro

      Current Treatment:
10 mg amitriptyline, DH Aloe Vera

      Used During Flares:
Uribel, extra DH Aloe Vera, Klonopin and Tramadol (as needed)

Practicing bladder training and stress control (hot baths, pelvic stretching)
Recently tried PT, do not appear to have PFD

Things that have not helped in the past:
      Oxybutynin, Vesicare, Pyridium, Myrbetriq, Vagifem

      Also have migraines and IBS

Merlot, I'll have to try that one. I've always preferred red wine , so hopefully I'm ok with that one.

I don't want to imply that everyone should try and drink a bottle of Chardonnay. I've been on elmiron now since 2011, so maybe my bladder has been coated somewhat by that med.

I agree. Alcohol can be VERY bad for sensitive bladders. I would never go near an alcoholic drink if my bladder was acting up. I also drink water during the evenings that I do have alcohol.
