Cauliflower is actually on the "usually bladder friendly" list. There's a link to diet information in my signature below. I suggest you use the information there to plan your diet.

That said, solid foods can take longer to react, but still within a day for me.

I have been doing that. Yesterday I at cucumbers, but still got a flare that prevented me from sleeping...

Is it realistic to hope that my doctors will eventually agree to surgically remove my prostate and/or bladder? If so, does one need to suffer for more than a year before one is allowed to have that surgery?

I finally found something that might work: Pyridium. I was in a bad shape in the evening. It got down to where sleep was possible an hour or two after taking Pyridium. I believe a lower concentration of it is sold over-the-counter under the brand name AZO.

Is there a downside to Pyridium that I am not aware of?

Yes, pyridium is available under the AZO name. I'm sure you already know it turns the urine a bright orange color --- and it stains anything that comes in contact with the urine. Vinegar will usually remove the stains from hard surfaces, but not from clothing. It sometimes stains contact lenses. I suggest you do a search for side effects, such as staining perspiration and other body fluids. It's usually prescribed on a short term basis to help with the pain of an infection. Since it helped you, it could help you to have instillations with lidocaine, marcaine (any of the "caines"). Some ICers do self instills regularly.

"Vinegar will usually remove the stains from hard surfaces", "staining perspiration"

Thank you for letting me know!

I will ask my doctor about marcaine instillations!

Is it the case that you have never read about anyone suggesting that using pyridium or marcaine long-term might eventually damage one's bladder?

I have never heard of it specifically damaged a bladder, but have heard about some who had the staining perspiration, tears, and even saliva -- I doubt you want to do that.

I suggest you do a search for the side effects to get a total picture.

Any one of the meds that end in caine could help -- if you have an instillation in your doctor's office and it offers temporary help, I suggest you ask about learning to do them yourself at home.

"I doubt you want to do that."

I wouldn't mind any of that staining if I could be sure that can turn off that unpleasant sensation, especially when it interferes with my sleep.
