Just wondering if anyone can give me a realistic answer to how long eliron takes to work. I know its not over night but I have heard anywhere fromsix months to a year. Also does anyone ever feel so irritated that the pain in the vaginal area goes down your thigh into the bottom of you foot? I have been on elmiron since about december of 2006. Also I use elavil makes me tired, but works. I know that my diet is making it worse. Also before my period its bad. help just want to hear from someone who understands.

I really do not know how long. I know IC never goes away, but I do have to believe Elmiron helps after 4 months. but still I flare it all the time. I hate this!

When I started Elmiron my IC specialist said it takes 4-6 months to see any result.......after all is it rebuilding the mucus lining in your bladder and that takes a while. I've been on it for 8 months now and I can tell a difference. Just give it some time.....hopefully it'll work for you too. Roxie

For IC I use Elmiron, Elavil and Freeze dried Aloe Vera (it works likes Elmiron, but naturally)and Azo as needed. I also take Zegerid, Randitine for Barrett's Esophagus. (which causes me to have constant yeast infections!)I take Cymbalta for Neuopathy/Myopathy pain. I use the Climara patch for menopause symptoms. I'm on a very strict diet because of the IC, IBS and Gastric Bypass. I take Primal Defense Probiotics and whole food Iron.
I no longer have the awful urethral pain! I've been using MSM gel now for 4 mo. and haven't had a flare up or the urethra pain.....it's amazing stuff!!:woohoo:

Most doctors will say about six months, but some report improvement sooner than that. I do encourage you to give the diet a try. You'll find details in the Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook --- it can be tough at first, but it's well worth the effort.

        Sending encouraging hugs,

Yes, I have the pain that radiates down my inner thigh all the way to my foot! I had it ever since my cysto/hydro/biopsy 11 weeks ago, and it hasn't let up since.

Mary - you may want to check and see if it's not PFD instead of IC that's causing you the pain down you leg. It's my belief that PFD, at least for right now, is the cause of my worst symptoms. From the PT trigger point work, I have horrible hip and back pain, with the hip pain radiating down my thigh to my knee, in the front and on the side. Just a thought. There's so much for us to think about, it's hard to know what's what.
