Does pyidium affect a urine culture? I know it affects the dip strips.

Thanks gals! The doc on call scheduled the culture but couldn't answer this question. I knew that someone here would know- you are all awesome!

Also, Sarojini, glad to hear you're having success with your interstim! I've been faithfully reading your updates.

Pyridium has no effect on cultures. The bacteria will grow even if your urine is bright orange because you just took a pill

The reason it effects the dip sticks is that they diagnose infection by changing colors. Since the pyridium dyes the dip stick orange, it's not possible to see the color of the stick. The culture should be accurate.

I had no idea where to post this...but...

I've been taking pyridium that last couple of days and it has been making things feel a bit better. Except that I need to have a urine culture in the morning (to confirm a flare vs. uti) and I want to know if it has to be completely out of my system or if it's ok if my urine is light yellow/orange yet from the meds.

Anyone know the answer to this?
