  • Progress Report After Hunner's Removal Surgery

I have been pretty sore after having my hunner's ulcers lasered off last Friday. In the last 24 hours I had quite a bit of improvement with the burning burning and frequency. I am going back to work tomorrow and I hope I can make it through a whole day without being miserable by the time I come home. Yesterday I started taking cytotec. I got it through my primary doctor. I am hoping that it will keep my hunner's from coming back so often.
I am about to give up on Elmiron and I am looking to find other alternatives to fight this horrible disaese. I somehow, someway find permanent relief from before I lose my mind as well as my job (attendance problems). IC really SUCKS!

    Hi TexasHoney!

I'm glad that you got through your surgery and feeling better. I can only imagine how hard it is to have to have the hunner's removed. I don't have them so I have no idea. You mentioned losing your job? How long have you been at your job? Have you looked into FMLA (family medical leave act) I've kinda became an expert on it because I had to use it while I was pregnant as well as now because I have used up all of my paid time off for the year and we are only 6 months into the year. Basically if you've been at your job a year and as long as they're not a really small company you should be able to apply for FMLA which allows you to have time off for your medical condition and it protects your job. If you've used up your paid time off they don't have to pay you, which sucks not to get paid but at least you still have your job. I just signed up for it and I was approved by my dr to have time off for flares and dr appts.

Hope you have a good first day at work and make it through the day w/o any problems.
    Christine

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Hello, Everyone - It's 2:30 am here in Texas
My bladder woke up about 2am after about 4 hours of really good sleep so I thought I would check the boards. I almost forgot I made about this thread
To answer your question Christine about paid leave, I have been at my my company for 5 Years and took some FLMA time in Nov-Dec 2005. I thought I read somwhere That there is a waiting period before you apply for it again but I don't really remember. I thinking about looking into it again if I don't start feeling better. I want to thank everybody for thier replies and concern. I don't know what I would do without gals.

              Love Y'all
