    COVID Booster for someone who had a massive flare from Moderna 2nd shot

    Hi folks -

    I'm wondering if any of you who flared from the original COVID vaccines have gotten your booster shots and how you have fared. I'm trying to gauge if a) it's going to put me into a months long flare again and b) getting Pfizer might be a better bet for my bladder or if I should stick with Moderna.

    I had a massive flare from the 2nd Moderna shot back in April - starting with the very night I got the shot. I had burning, frequent urination with pain, and had to sleep and often work with a heating pad over my bladder. I couldn't run, eat or drink much for several months and working and car trips were a struggle. I worried I would never get back to remission. Ultimately, it took about 3.5 months to get back to my baseline of being able to eat, drink, exercise, and pee normal.

    I've heard that if I stick with Moderna they will only give me a half dose, but I'm also wondering if I might have a less dramatic response to getting Pfizer given how I reacted to the 2nd Moderna shot.

    PLEASE LET ME KNOW if you have any wisdom to impart here. It's been almost 8 months since my 2nd shot and my partner wants me to get the booster even though it kind of destroyed my life for 3 months when I got my last shot...

    I wish I had an answer for you, but you are the first report I have seen from anyone with a bladder flare from any of the Covid vaccines. I had Moderna for all three shots --- my only reaction was a sore arm.

      Oh wow that's terrible! Quite a dilemma! Have you talked to your doc about it? Wondering if the child dose might be OK for you?

      I hope you're able to find a solution so you can get your booster. Certainly don't want to catch covid! It could also give you a flare on top of being sick.

      Myself, I got 3 shots of Pfizer with no trouble.

        I have natural immunity so wouldn’t have risked the shots. Many vaccinated are getting and transmitting covid. I believe everyone must make their own decision and do their own risk/benefit analyses.

          Hey I just wanted to report to everyone that the Booster was WAAAAAY easier on my bladder. The first two nights after the Moderna booster were rough (slept with heating pad) but then I went on my IC diet and it very quickly subsided. It's now been 9 days and i'm nearly back to normal. I had a spicy dinner and even a little bit of alcoholic kombucha. I'd get the booster ASAP. Also my 3 yo tested positive yesterday so I'm really glad I got the booster just over a week ago. Wish I would have gotten it sooner. It was no big deal compared to the second shot.
