  • can penicilln cause a flare?

Hi everyone! I haven't been on in awhile and I hope all is well with everyone. I had to have a partial root cananl done on Weds. Not Fun! I had an anxiety induced flare while he was working. He had to stop drilling twice so I could pee. He was very nice about the issue. I know that my flares are greatly influenced by stress. Anyway, the dentist has put me on penicillin and my bladder has slowly felt worse and worse. I am amazed that my IBS has yet to cause me problems.:woohoo: I was wondering if anyone else has had a flare with penicillin.

I can't answer your question; hopefully someone will know. I haven't taken penicillin for many years because I developed a severe allergy to it.

Rachann, sometimes antibotic bothers bladder and sometimes it don't. I think if you drink plenty of water with it, you might be fine. Hope you get better soon.

Hi and so sorry you're feeling lousy. Yep, penicillin put me a flare a few years back. I had been in remission for a long, long time and then the penicillin set me back. Don't worry, this flare will pass. Feel better********
P.S. I'm in the middle of a flare right now after two years of remission. I started using my Oil of Oregano capsules, Prelief and Zantac to ward it off. This flare was caused by stress. I'm hopeful my "recipe will stop the pain and frequency. Yep it sucks but hang in there.

Thanks for thinking of me ladies. It is so nice to have your advice. I am still not back to normal and I have to go back to the dentist tomorrow for round # 2 of the root canal. I was reading past posting from Kadi and she was talking about her dentist using non epinephrine numbing agents. I'm guessing epinepherine can cause a flare? I will ask my dentist about it tomorrow. I'll keep you ladies posted. Plush, I feel your pain. I don't think I will be getting much sleep tonight. Lots of Hugs, Rach

            Hi rach,

Alot of meds make me flare like penicillin, maybe since your having more work done soon, you can ask for something else he or she may reccomend that won't make you flare. Pretty much trial and error...good news is there is so many different meds out there you will be able to find one that will work and not make you flare. May have to try a few but at least if the situation ever arises again for that specific medication you will know what works for you and what doesn't.

Hope your next dentist appt goes well,
            Tracey

                Hi ladies!

I had my second appiontment. I told the dentist I couldn't finish the penicillen and he was fine with that. I also had him use non epinephrine numbing agents. Ouch!! I felt every poke without that epinephrine. I still managed to have a major flare. I'm feeling a little better today. Maybe it is a gift from God because it's my birthday.:woohoo: I'm the big 27 this year. My mom doesn't want me to remind her how old I am. She is so funny. Anyway, I have to go back for a filling and in a few weeks they will finally put my crown in.:woohoo: Wish me luck, I hate how I get a major flare everytime I have to see the dentist! Let this be a lesson to everyone. Do not wait 8 years to go to the dentist! Big Hugs, Rach

Happy Birthday Rach!!!!!!! I'm so glad you're feeling better. I always ask my dentist to remove the epi because it causes anxiety. Yep, the dentist has to work fast because a non-epi needle is extremely short acting. I love not having that numb sensation for hours (with an epi filled needle) so I always put up with the mild pain during the procedures. Of course, it's a matter of choice. My husband has no problem with epi needles so never asks for the other. (I also think he's a bit of a suck regarding any kind of discomfort.) Anyway, have a wonderful day!
