  • Kinda Freaked Out

I didn't really know where to put this so I guess it'll go here. So I had my office cysto on Tuesday morning. They told me that I could have burning and some blood for 24-48 hours. I didn't have any blood except the first time that I peed that I could see. I had a whole lot of burning at first and that got better and better. I still feel pretty crappy though. Today I have had bladder spasms and times that my urethra feels like it is being pinched. I have had really bad frenquency and urgency and pain. I called the urologist office back and when I mentioned we think I might have IC they told me that it would take longer for me to feel better because of this. Okay, would have been nice to know, but at least I know it's not abnormal.
So anyway, the reason that I'm freaked out. I just got home a little while ago and found my hubby making dinner (so sweet, he knew I wasn't feeling well again) and my back started hurting on one side really really REALLY bad. I've never had a kidney infection but I THINK it was hurting in the same place where my left kidney would be. I pushed on that area and it hurt more and I had to go and sit down, which actually hurt more but I thought I was going to pass out! I sat there for a couple of mintues and then the back pain finally started to get better and now there is barely anything there. I now have the worst headache though. I don't know if this is from the pain or what. Am I crazy to worry that this could be a kidney infection? I've never had one, don't know what it would feel like or anything. If anybody could give me some ideas of what it feels like to have one I would greatly appreciate it.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

I should probably add then when I had this really bad back pain on my left side I also felt really sick to my stomach and my stomach actually hurt.

You might want to be checked for a UTI. That can happen because of the catheter.

Well Dr. B put me on macrobid for the next six weeks so if there is one there that should take care of it. I'm more worried about my kidneys because lord did my back hurt but I'm hoping it's just everything is out of whack because of that stupid test. Thanks for the hugs Leslie

This was after an office cysto - NOT a hydro cysto? Wow - I am soooo grateful I didn't have any problems after mine. I had no idea an office one could be so problematic. Hope you are feeling a little better!!!! How long did it take? Did he distend your bladder with a lot of water??

Yea, this was just an in office one. BUT he said that he could see chronic inflamation and from what I have read on here a lot of bladders look normal when they have an in office cysto and they don't see anything until they do the hydro/cysto. I wonder if these means that I have really bad IC? God only knows. It only took about 5 minutes to do it. First they put something in, I'm guessing a cath because he told me he wanted to take a urine sample directly out of my bladder to test it for bacteria again. So he did that to have it cultured and then right after that he used the cysto to look at my bladder, this was uncomfortable when they put the water in but as soon as I complained he must have emptied some of it because the discomfort stopped. Then they pulled it out and and I got to clean up and get up and get dressed. It was really uncomforable but they only told me that I would be uncomfortable for 24-48 hours....they forgot to mention that if you have IC it can take a lot longer than that until you feel better. Ugh!

I only remember the nightmare it was to have the office cysto. I almost passed out from the pain. I think the CNA was supposed to have numbed the area with lidocaine or something - but it didn't work. Then he started the cysto. He kept asking if I could hold on a little longer. I guess if I had tried breathing a little more regularly it might not have been so bad. He diagnosed IC pretty quickly. I know I would never agree to an office one again.
I don't remember how long it took to have things calm down. I think I had been in so much pain for so long that it just all melded together.
I hope that you feel better and that it isn't a kidney infection - that could be brutal.
