  • Urine Volume??

    Hi Gals.
I was just wondering, what is considered a normal amount when you void? I know it all depends on how much we drink though, but I notice that there are days I drink alot (like 2 to 3 quarts of water) because it helps dilute the urine, and I will pee good size amounts throughout the day(usually between 6-10 ounces each time, but sometimes less. But then there are days when I drink the same exact amount and pee alot less of an amount.

I was reading some info that said that we are suppose to pee out the same amount that we drank or at least very close to that. I dont always pee out the same amount, alot of times it is less. (I have kept a voiding diary and measure). I am wondering if this means that I am not emptying my bladder or that something else is wrong. What is considered a good void amount, like how many ouncs? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.

I can't give you an exact amount but it does depend on the amount you drink, sweat etc. I think keeping a diary is a good thing and you can discuss this with your Dr. and together you can decide if you are drinking and voiding too much or little.

Jen, sometimes it depends on your bladder condition. You can have a test done to see if your bladder is emptying right.

        Hi Trishann.
The only bad thing about this is that it does not happen all the time. I even went to my uro/nurse last week and had her check to see how much pee was left in the bladder after I peed and it was hardly none left in there so I must have emptied my bladder at that time, and it felt like I did empty it that particular time. I dont want to waste a ton of money on a test if I happen to bo ok at that particular time, because then it wont really be accurate. I thought about just using a cath myself to check and see what is left in the bladder when I get these feelings, as they happen only certain times of the day and sometimes not every day. I will mention it to my urogyne when I see her next.

Jen, sorry about responding kind of later. I do notice for myself, if my bladder gets irritated by something I drink, food, or even medication, or not drink enough water, I have less urine volume. I'm not for sure but the more inflammation in the bladder the less urine output is for me. You said it does not happen all the time so I am guessing it is the inflammation.

I hope you do ask your doctor about this problem. Maybe your doctor can find out what is going on and help you with it.

              Sending hugs, Trishann

I wonder if it could have something to do with time of month (fluid retention) or even if you have eaten more sodium in your diet on some days.

I thought about that too, but my diet is VERY bland and I eat a gluten free diet as well as it is way easier on my bad tummy, so I eat basically the same thing every day usually. I know that sounds pretty boring, but hey, I am just happy I can eat. I have some friends who have Gastroparesis ( a paralyzed gut) and they cant eat at all and rely on tube feedings. I am just thrilled I am still able to eat.

I have no clue why I can drink alot of water which I do daily, usually about 2 to 3 liters and pee alot some days, but then drink that same amount and pee only part of it out. I keep a diary of what I drink and what I void each time and like yesterday, I drank about 135 ounces all day and peed out only about 109 ounces. There are some days when I am in a bad flare that I dont feel like I empty my bladder all the way. When I had a bad UTI a couple weeks ago, I had this feeling alot. Is this normal to not empty everything out when you IC is in a flare?

I even went to my nurse so she could check how much I had left in the bladder after I peed, but at that time, I got it all out so there was not much left in there. It happens at different times of the day. Really weird.
