  • flaring during period?

I always though flareups are common prior to period? have been feeling awful for the last 2/3 weeks but this week during period, pain burning and frequency are so awful can't even sit for 10mins.

could it be as not had a period for 3 months...

my ic has been worse over the last year or so but have always been able to control flareups lately with my 'toolkit' so only ever have really bad frequency whilst meds are acting....

cannot take tramadol anymore (interactions with elavil and also abnormal heart rhythms) , maybe that is why things are worse as pain is not helped by just codeine...have taken one 10mg of elavil in the day to help calm things down as elavil at evening gives me a few hours relief...

it is meant to increase painkilling action of opoids too?

any ideas what i can do??

was having constipation and thought most of my flare was due to that, but sorted that out now but burning and frequency is through the roof with no respite...

using bicarb, codeine, heat pad, ditropan....

ironically, 3/4 weeks ago had a period of 4 days total relief - double capacity and no frequency- thought was on way up........

does anyone else feel worse during period?

hi kjd, I think I now have vulvodynia/ burning and sensitivty now too. this started happening a month or so ago so can't wear tight clothes/underwear and sanitary towels worsen it so ended up buying the all natural ones

the thing that scares me is first just had frequency, then diet sensitivity, then constant urgency, then pain, then burning and now vulvodynia type symptoms too.... all these symptoms had about a few months time span in them...seems my ic is one that gets worse.... I was hoping maybe not and that would be lucky not to get vulvodynia or burning....

hope you feel better soon! have tried the hot showers to help ease the pain - am thinking of going to the gp to either increase elavil or get adequate painkillers as nothing is touching the pain and frequency

think it's the burning down there that is worse as makes me go even more times!

        rachel,
I have noticed tramadol didn't help my headaches infact gave me migraines when tablet was wearing off....
apparently tramadol works in a totally different way to other painkillers as spoke to gp about alternative to it..

i used to have horrible flares during my period but i've started using a menstrual cup. i was afraid of the size at first and thought it might be uncomfortable. plus the whole idea of it completly grossed me out. but it has been great. there is slight discomfort when i put it in but other than that i don't even feel it. and you don't have to take it out as often as a tampon.
i hadn't even heard of them before a couple months ago and i wished i'd heard of them sooner.
i think i had chemical sensitivity to tampons and pads and maybe thats why it helped so much?
          i don't know.
the most helpful link i have for it is http://community.livejournal.com/men...ps/648061.html

              Hi Lynnemm7,
Can I ask, what is a menstrual cup and where do you get it? How does it work? Sounds interesting. I also hate using pads as they really irritate me, and I dont like to use tampons either.

well it sounds really gross. but it's basically a silicone cup that you put in and empty whenever it's full. it varies from person to person. i can go like 6 hours on my first day without having to empty it. the last days i can go all day long. it's really nice to not have to worry about it.
i have the mooncup UK. that link i put shows all of them and talks about the differences and all that....
you just wash it whenever you empty it and you can boil it between periods to sanitize it.
it's nice to not have to worry about buying pads or tampons at all too!
the cost is a lot up front (like 30 dollars) but obviously if you never buy pads or tampons again it's worth it =]
i used to take baths like 3 times a day when i was on my period because of the pain and wearing pads or tampons hurt and i coudln't go without...
i've never had problems putting it in or taking it out, but if you read other entries in the lj community i linked to other people have. so i think it just varies from person to person.

oh and also i just googled mooncup UK and bought it from their website. the UK is important because there is a moon cup that is a different cup.
also some health food supermarket type stores carry some of them, i think diva cup is most common in the US. =]
