  • my bladder and I are having a fight

Hello everyone I am newly diagnosed.. officially anyway. They (being the Dr's) have finally given me a label. I have not so recently decided that my bladder and I have agreed to disagree and she is not my friend, more like the not very nice should be removed step sister from a wicked step mother. Either way the point is that the thing just doesn't work correctly. Currently I am dealing with what I like to call a "phantom" bladder infection. It burns, he itches, it hurts, and in general just drives me nuts. I have been dealing with this little bugger for about 10 days now, I already had a culture done, and it has been confirmed. So back to the pee pills... my Dr's infinite wisdome leads them to candy coat it with the wonder drugs pee pills and vicodin. I am at my wits end at times. So I guess the real question here is, do any of you wonderful strong people have any advice for a pee pill dependent. They threatened to cath me, but I declined, my b/f of 15 years also has IC and says that it's like what she would imagine heaven to be when they cath her. Any takers on this topic.

I am so sorry you are suffering like this. Flares are so terrible. I love taking a hot shower or bath when this happens!

been there done that, but thank you. I appreciate the response. I seem to do better in the evenings. I wonder sometimes if I should try and get some time off work. I normally work forty hour weeks, this week how ever I will put in 63 hours before all is said and done.

        oh no

When I push through flares it makes them alot worse and makes them last longer, often resulting in more time needed off work then if I rested a day or two. However, I understand how finances work, and that missing work is hard on the checkbook.

The time off work doesn't matter much I am in the military, so I get paid around the clock... it's impossible to get time off... oh well such is the life...

What meds does your doc have you on? Did your culture actually show an infection? Maybe they need to switch antibiotics. I am so sorry you are dealing with this.

Why did your doc threaten to cath you? I dont understand that. Also, I have had to self cath a couple times, and I have no idea what your b/f means by relating cathing to being in heaven. I sure would not compare cathing to heaven, that is for sure
Did your culture come back showing an infection? Maybe you just need a different anitbiotic.
In any event, I sure hope you feel better soon.

the culture didn't show an infection at all. Just hurts like I have one, so the only thing they are giving me now is pyridium (sp), and vicodine. Being in the military there are only certain services our doctors know how to provide, so they sent me to a urologist, who has done nothing except confirm the IC... Right now I am waiting for the insurance to approve a bladder biopsy, and some x-rays until that happens the only thing any of these ubber smart docs will do is candy coat it with pain killers, and even that is loosing it's glory. My best friend says that when she has been cath'd it's the only time the bladder truly feels empty... and that's why she compared it to heaven, when i went to the Dr's they were going to cath me because I simply could not pee enough to put more then a drop or two in the cup for the culture.
