  • Sooo mad I could scream!

    Hi Gals.
I posted earlier that last night in the middle of the night I had chills and cold sweats plus more bladder pain. I called the doctor today and of course got the nurse. I told her that I thought I may have an infection. She asked it I had any fever, and I said no. She then said that I probably did not have an infection then because usually you get fever with the chills.

I had quite a few UTI's even a big nasty one that almost went to my kidneys once and I did not even have a fever then. Only the chills. I am so sick of these nurses trying to play doctor with me.

She said she would talk to the doctor and likely have one of the other nurses get back to me. This is getting beyond ridiculous.I mean this is no good at all. Talk about miscommunication. I should not have to have my message relayed to the doctor by a bunch of different nurses. This is to confusing. If anything, there should be only one nurse who deals with a patients issues. It should not cross a bunch of different hands. That is he way things are missed and not treated properly. Also, I would feel better talking to my doctor, after all, I PAY HER!!

I am just so fed up. I am so happy I have another appointment with another urogyne next week. I am just praying he is better than her. I am having no luck here at all. Thanks for hearing me vent.

Thats BS. The only time I have a fever with a uti, is when it has gone up into my kidneys! and by then its a huge mess. Call and call and pitch a fit. This is serious. If they won't let you in today go to the ER. Don't let this wait. It could lead to permanent kidney damage if you wait!

      Thanks Erika.
I am ******( sorry for the language). I just am getting so fed up. I already know what the doctor( or should I say, Nurse is going to say when she calls back). SHe is likely going to say that I have to drop off a urine culture first, wait three days and then if I have a confirmed UTI, then she will treat it.
I mean maybe I dont have a UTI, but it sure feels like it. Also, after I had my second instill a couple weeks ago, actually less than that, it was on the 30th of March, I swear I got an infection from it because the next day I was in agony. Well the doctor I called on that Sunday and she gave me a script of 5 days of macrobid to take twice a day. Well after being on it for three days I started feeling alot better. I just finished the last pill on Friday and now yesterday in the middle of the night I got the severe chills and sweats.
I just figured it may be an infection. I mean I dont know what else it could be. The only other symptom I have is more bladder pain. I do have a slight vaginal discharge though. But to be honest, I have never gotten a fever or chills from a vaginal infection before. So I just dont know. I am just aggravted at the whole mess. Thanks for responding Erika.

        oh no!

3 days is torture! They may as well put you on the rack! I would raise hell. Go to the er if they can't get you in soon. they will give you anti's and pyridium from a dip-stick test. Be strong! Down as much water as possibe. Pour warm water over your vagianl area when you pee or pee in the warm tub-gross I know but it helps the "pinch" at the end. Keep us posted!

The only bad thing is that those dipstick tests never pick up my infections. I had a huge nasty UTI a while back and I had the dipstick test and it was completely normal, yet my culture came back showing a huge UTI. This only makes things worse for me.
Am I the only one who the dipstick tests and urinaylysis does not pick up my infections? That is why I had to wait the three days after the culture to get treated last time, the dipstick was normal so the urogyne said I most likely did not have a UTI, But guess what, I did and it was a big nasty one. I knew I had one then because of all the pain I was in.
Thanks again for all the info Erika. I am getting so exhausted just trying to deal with these yahoo doctors and nurses!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your pain. It's interesting to me that the dip stick test don't pick up the signs of infections for you. That might explain a lot with me. I have those test strips at home and sometimes I feel like I have a UTI, but they show everything to be fine. When some nitrites do show up I take antibiotics.
My doctor let me have a prescription for a bunch of Macrobid. For a while, I was even taking it preventatively. I hope your new doctor is easier to deal with. It drives my CRAZY when I have to leave a message for the nurse every time. Just call back repetitively if you need to. How did you find a gynouro or whatever they're called? I don't think there are any in my area and I don't live in a desolate place or anything.

I bet. The BS is sure exhausting. I'm sure your not the only one it won't work for or they wouldn't send out for cultures. In the mean time, since those dip stick tests don't work anyways, can you fly to the drug store and pick up some pyridium? Brand name AZO Standard or Uristat. It helps me very much with the burning and even the pressure to a slight degree. Hope this helps you

My dr did that to me once... I yelled at the lady's behind the desk and demanded to see the dr. they were so shocked.... haha but on a serious note... you really need to yell at these people and tell them that you are in so much pain and need to be seen witht the dr today!!!! no exceptions!!! I agree with Erika go to the ER if nobody helps you. You shouldnt never wait. It could get really ugly,

It could be that you have picked up an infection that is resistant to some antibiotics. The culture and sensitivity test will diagnose the infection and tell the doctor which antibiotic will beat it. I always want a culture when I have an infection.

Yes, you are not alone ---- I've had two dipstick tests done in doctors' offices that did not show infection. The UTIs were picked up in the culture, though. THe home tests have never caught my UTIs, but cultures do.

                      Test Strips

Hey, I am new to this website and sooooo glad that I found it. You were talking about having test strips so that you can test yourself. Can you tell me where I could get some because my local drug store says they can't get them for me.
I probably have the same problem though with test strips because I could be a the doctor for a retest-burning like crazy-and they would tell me all was clear!
                      Thanks!!

I heard about them on this site too. Someone was saying they got them from their doctor, so I asked my doctor for some. I had to be kind of insistant. I told him about how it was hard to be in pain at night and over the weekends with my recurrant infections.
It is sooo inconvenient to give a urine sample at the Dr. office all the time. The test strips I got come in a tall brown bottle. I don't know if they're available at drug stores.
Right before I got them I knew I had an infection coming on and nothing showed at the Dr's. The very next day it was positive on the strips though, so I started treating myself.

You should be able to pick them up at Walmart, Walgreens, or any of that type of store. The one I prefer is First Response because instead of looking at color comparisons, it foams if there's infection present.

The ICN Shop carries them too.

                            Hi Ladies.
Well, I just spoke to the nurse and I am really upset here. She just called me no ( it is 3:30 pm) and tells me that she talked to the doctor and the doctor said that I should come in right now and leave a culture and so she can use the bladder scanner just to see if I am retaining anything(that is my guess). I told her that there was no way I could get there in that time. I dont live right around the corner and here in Chicago, It is major Rush hour and the traffic is packed right now. I mean I called her at 8:30 this morning. If she would have called me back at a decent time, I could have made it there. They close at 4:30.
Well I told her I could not make it there today, and she tells me that I would have to come first thing in the morning since the doctor will not be there long as she is going out of town. Then she tells me that if I get worse I will just have to go to the ER as the doc said she would not prescribe anything over the phone for me without seeing me and having a culture. I am so ******. I mean I know what she will do tomorrow, she will do the dipstick test and if it is normal, she will make me wait until the culture comes back, which will be 3 days, so then I probably wont get the amswer until Monday of next week. This is an absolute joke, honestly. Thanks for listening and for all your adivce ladies, I appreciate it.
