Hello I am really new to all this and a bit confused. One of my major symptoms is URGENCY. I can go, or at least feel the need to go, every 5-10 minutes. What out there actually helps for urgnecy/frequency rather than pain?
Thanks in advance for any responses!!

Hi and . Urgency is miserable. I've found that an overactive bladder medicine (for me Ditropan XL) helps with urgency. Back when I was at my worst, I would do things like time my bathroom breaks. It gets tricky when you just can't tell whether you need to go or not. I would let myself go about once an hour.
Self-help for urgency can include ice or heat. Heat works best for me. A warm heating pad is ideal. A plain warm bath can also be soothing.
I hope that helps at least some. You'll find some great support on these boards and some wonderful people!
I was prescribed detrol for over active bladder but it did nothelp me. It just reduced my flow to a dribble. When I started instills that took care of urgency, frequency, reteniton and all my other symptoms.
I would certainly try anything the MD suggested. Detrol and ditropan work great for a lot of people.

The other thing I forgot is figuring out dietary triggers. Even though my symptoms are mostly under control now, I still have trouble with increased urgency when I eat or drink something that bothers my bladder.
It sounds like some have relief from the OAB meds and some do not... Detrol was the first thing they gave me when I went in 2.5 years ago with my symptoms (well, once all the anti-biotics didnt cure the UTI they thought I had)... It took a couple months before I really noticed a difference on it, but I went from going about 8x's a night, and every half hour to a more "normal" amount. My doc then told me a few months ago to stop the Detrol, that maybe it's really not doing anything for me. So I did, and I started getting up 4xs a night within a week so I started back up again. Some days are better than others of course with the frequency, but the urgency seems to be there most of the time... when I have to go, I have to go! Can't hurt to try it!
