  • In a Flare...day 5

So, I am in another long flare. Don't seem to be able to get it to go away. Am eating a strict IC diet. This flare came on Thursday night after I ate at Chick-Fil-A. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce only and waffle fries.

I have been in pain with lots of frequency/urgency since then. I cannot get in to see a urologist anywhere here until next week. I upped my Nortriptylene, but that worries me, too because I don't want to become dependent on a higher dose for it to work.

Most of my previous flares I've been able to get to calm down far before 5 days with a heating pad, prelief/tums, and lots of water along with the strict IC diet.

Has anyone any other ideas for coping with the flare and getting it to calm down? I cannot do the baking soda in water because I suffer from congestive heart failure.

    Help, please
    Sonja

I'm so sorry that you're in so much pain I really don't have any other suggestions. I'm in a killer flare myself brought on by my period. It hurt to walk last night which I've never had before. I hope someone else gives you some suggestions and you start to feel better soon.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Sorry you're going thru this--just got out of one myself last week. No fun. Can you get in to see your family doctor? sometimes they can help? Sure you don't have an infection? That's what I had to do last week (no - didn't have an infection- but he did adjust some of my medications for me).
Anyways, hope you feel better soon.
