I am almost positive the time I got a UTI, they still had me pee in a cup even though it was my time of the month. It comes from two different places, so I would think it wouldn't matter. But I don't know I could be wrong.

My GP tested me many times for UTI's while I was on my period. They just do the dip stick test in their office though. They never showed anything but blood in my urine which I told them was probably because of my period. Because I had the symptoms of a UTI they would just give me the antibiotics, now I know they were just flares. I don't see why they couldn't culture you're urine while you have your period. Even though it will take longer to come back then at least you'll know for sure. Of course I'm not the nurse or dr though.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Sleepyangel I don't know why the doctor could not tell you if you can or can not, that is strange. You probably will have to wait and call that nurse Monday. I know it is so upsetting especially when you are hurting, if possible, maybe going to the ER or maybe call the ER and see what can be done. I know it stinks that you have to wait for a while just to get an appointment and then your monthly period comes around. I kinda have a feeling this will happen to me too. I miss three months and then here it is again.

Sleepyangel I am so sorry you are going through this pain. I hope you can get the help soon.

        Take care, Trishann

Only an IC patient would be glad it's "just" an infection. I hope you feel better very quickly.
