I just purchased baking soda. Can anyone tell me how much to dissolve in water and how many times a day I should take it? Thanks, Rachann

      Thanks, Kristiv

I tried some last night and it was so terrible I almost puked. I'll be brave and drink some today. I'm desperate for relief. Thanks again, Rachann

I don't know if baking powder and bicarbonate of soda are different things in America, but they are here in the U.K.

We should use bicarbonate of soda, not baking powder.

They are different here also. One is called Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate NaHCO3) and the other is called Baking Powder which is a mix of baking soda and acid. Therefore use baking soda and not baking powder.

            baking soda bath

If you are experiencing burning down below you can also take a bath with the baking soda. Fill tub and put in 1/2 the box. Works WONDERFUL for the buring this is also great for Diaper Rash. Just soak as long as you can......

              Thanks for the advice

I tried baking soda in the tub and I didn't notice any change. I didn't use 1/2 box and that is what I will try this time. Rachann

i felt the same way when i first tried baking soda, but it was worth a few minutes of "yuck" for the pain relief i felt.

i wanted to let you know that i have found sodium bicarbonate tablets, over the counter, at the walmart pharmacy. you have to order 1000 tablets at a time, but it requires no prescription, and it was only about $15 here in texas. they have been a life saver for me. when i feel urethral pain coming on, i take a "baking soda" tablet and rest for about 30 minutes, and 95% i'm pain free. it has really improved the quality of life for me and my family.

i wish you well and hope the baking soda works for you!

                  Baking Soda Tablets?

That's awesome! I am going to check that out! I did find that long-term use of baking soda had a rebound effect and I had to stop / not take so often. I had the same thing happen with Tums.

Lately, however, I chew about 3 max strength tums when I have middle-of-the-night pain or before I am going to eat something a tiny bit naughty and it really helps. Kind of like prelief (but that makes my abdomen feel like it will split for some reason).

I'll look for those tablets, though! It's been a while since I did the baking soda.
