Hi everyone...I think I have a UTI. My pain has doubled and I can't hardly stand to pee. I'm taking my pain medication and I'm still not getting any relief. I really don't want to go to the ER or anything but I'm not sure what else to do. i talked to my doctor around 5 and he started me on antibiotics and pyridium but so far no relief. Any suggestions?

UTI? When the pain is too much
I am happy to say that I am off all pain medication and currently take Neurontin and Uribel for my IC. I went to the Cleveland Clinic Chronic Pain Rehabilitation program and it saved my life!! I still get bad flare ups but it turns out I was on so many narcotics it was making my pain worse.Tags: None

If the doctor has you on antibotics you have to give it at least 7 days. If no improvement I would go see him and start your treatment plan again.<center>

The pyridium should help within a few hours. I hope you feel better very soon.

I had one at Thanksgiving and had to go to the ER, not fun. It takes about a day to start feeling the relief from the antibiotic. Unfortunately for me, the pyridium didn't do much. You are on the right track though. Just hang in there, it will get better. Drink LOTS and LOTS of water, that should help.

thanks for the replies everyone! I've taken 2 pyridium....no improvement yet. He told me if I wasn't better by tomorrow afternoon to call him again. Last time this happened I was hospitalized for 3 days for pain management - really don't wanna do that again. I traveled on christmas and the day after for a total of 8 hours so I'm thinking that along with the infection has put me in this nonstop cycle of pain. I'm trying to drink lots but I know that just means i will have to pee and it just hurts too bad.I am happy to say that I am off all pain medication and currently take Neurontin and Uribel for my IC. The travelling at Thanksgiving is what caused my existing painful UTI to go into uncontrollable pain. Do you have any sort of relaxation CD? I find that if I can get myself to calm all my tense muscles I do much better. Once I get into a severe cycle of spasms and pain it can be very hard to do.
I hope you see some relief soon. It sounds as if your Dr is very compassionate about your pain, that is good.

I'm so sorry!! It usually takes a day for me to feel any effects from antibiotics for uti. Have you tried taking your Valium suppositories? Sometimes for me the pain leads to tension which leads to more pain. Ugly cycle. I hope you're feeling better soon. I don't want you to have to go to the hospital but I don't want you to be there hurting either. Take care of yourself and do what you know in your heart is right. I'm hoping something kicks in quick.
I JUST noticed it's a week old too!! I hope you're doing better.Katie-46 yr old female dx'd with IC after 15 years of symptoms off and on long term antibiotic use, GERD,IBS and now IC diet, gallbladder removed, endometrial ablation w/tubes tied

Thanks everyone! I haven't been on much since I posted it. My doctor ended up admitting me to the hospital for IV antibiotics and pain meds. And apparently I was dehydrated because I wasn't drinking enough cause it hurt too bad to go to the bathroom so they gave me IV fluids too. I was only in from the 30th to the 1st....a very exciting new years eve in the hospitalI'm feeling better now though, the infection is gone.

I'm glad you're feeling better!! Between you and me, we spent the whole holiday season in the hospital! It's good that you got rehydrated though. That will really mess you up on top of an infection.
