  • New year and started with a flare!!

    Hey all

I had a major flare after taking some amoxil in June 2010. Flare lasted about 4 months and I was in remission for 2 months.

Now, about a week ago (after I took a 5 day course of antibiotics for dental problems) I'm flaring again!!

My GP has upped my Elavil to 75mg and increased my Klonopin to 0.5 twice a day. Luckily I found that Flomax 0.4mg takes away the urgency and frequency completely but I still have burning pain. I tried Elmiron, it didn't work (made my burning and frequency worse just after 3 days!!!)

I'm already on so much medication. Went to the pharmacy and the pharmacist recommended a "base powder" to de-acidify the urine?? It's called A.Vogel's Base Powder. She said I might suffer from acidosis?!

Anyways, as a male its even worse for me coz my friends don't care to hear about my bladder problems and they just think I'm crazy!

What do you guys do for burning pain?

    I'm on the following meds:
    Diovan 80mg - High BP
    Bisocor 5mg - High BP
Elavil 75mg - neuropathic pain in skin and for bladder pain
Klonopin 0.5mg - neuropathic pain and anxiety
Metforming 500mg XR for insulin resistance
Flomax as needed for at least 7 days.

My liver is already showing signs of struggle (I have fattly liver too). and i'm only 33....geeesh......:woohoo:

Sorry you're having so much trouble! Have you tried Azo? Sometimes that really helps for the burning. It's billed as a urinary analgesic. You can buy it over the counter and there are also prescription strengths. I just buy it OC because I'm not sure how well it works for me. But sometimes I'll take it just to see. There is also another OC med called Cystex that has different ingredients but, I think, is supposed to do the same thing. It doesn't really work for me but, again, at times I'll try it just to see!! Good luck and sorry for your pain, I understand!!!

I'm very sorry you're having so many problems. I think I would ask my physician if my pharmacist recommended any type of supplement. Also I noted that you take Flomax "as needed" --- it's usually given to take full time. If it doesn't work for you, there are several other medications that help make urination easier. Cardura is one and has the benefit of helping with high blood pressure.

I hope you feel better soon.

          Thanks Donna

I will phone my doc and hear what he says. He did say that if we don't get the pain under control I will have to start thinking about long term pain medication. He mentioned Ultracet and Duragesic patches. But I'll first see how things goes.

Thanks so much for the reply!
