I agree with you Katie, internet shopping is so much easier and the prices are actually better and then it's like Christmas when you get the delivery. It can be addicting! If only you could do your grocery shopping online, the world would be a perfect place...and a bathroom would be only a few steps away. Jill, wife of Bob

I sure that somewhere there was an elevator in that stupid place. But none of the employees in any of the stores knew where it was and, frankly, after hobbling around on crutches I was too exhausted to look anymore. Neither my friend nor I saw signs, that's for sure.
And that's how my addiction to Internet shopping began.......

The Americans With Disabilities law requires that there be restroom access --- there has to be either a restroom on the ground floor or an elevator. If that mall doesn't comply, I suggest you file a report.

Last summer, right before I was dx'd (but was definetely in the the throes of IC) I broke my leg. I was on crutches for 10 weeks and toward the end I decided to go shopping at a new outdoor mall. I HAD to pee as soon as we got there but the only public rr was up 2 flights of stairs with no elevator that we could find. Not one single store would make an exception to their rules. So we just ended up going home. I haven't been back to shop at THAT particular mall since, and I don't think you'll catch me there any time soon.

I'm sorry you had to thru such an ordeal. I have a card too and it does work most of the time for me. You really should look into getting one. I hope your flare ends soon.

I am definitely getting the cards! Thank you to everyone here for their continuous support!
This is a very frustrating and frightening disorder, but at least the support here is one strong prescription!

The cards do work. I have used mine before. Someone may need to walk with you to a bathroom and wait outside the door, but they shouldn't deny you access.

OMG that makes me so angry. We usually have no trouble anywhere. Maybe your doc will write you an RX for bathroom use. If you gotta say you have friggin bladder cancer, say it. Saying you have IC will get you nowhere. Really we have not had a problem, and these were people who were taking YOUR money, you were not there to take THEIRS. If you were a man and said you had prostate problems they would probably lay out a red carpet for you. Not fair. And a bank of all places. Would take my business elsewhere. Jill, wife of Bob

No problem. I believe it's because of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Someone chime in if I am incorrect.

There are public bathroom access cards which you can present to most businesses when you have to use the bathroom. If you present them with this card and explain that you have a medical condition and they refuse to let you use the bathroom, they can get in a lot of trouble. They sell them in the IC shop. http://www.icnsales.com/icn-restroom-cards/

    Public Restrooms and Flares...

Honestly, I have had it with the public's lack of knowledge of this disorder! I'm afraid to go out at times, because I cannot have a bathroom 24/7. But it's getting to the point where when I have a flare (usually several times a week), if I hold my bladder for any duration of time, my bladder begins to bleed!
For example, my fiance and I were at the bank filling out paper work for a new car this past weekend. I urinated before we left and within 5 minutes of getting to the bank, my bladder became swollen like a balloon and I had to immediately go. I asked the teller where the bathroom was, and I was told that I was not allowed to use it since it was behind the vault... I literally started to cry!!! I had to have my father take me next store to Dunkin' Donuts, plus he HAD to make a purchase in order for me to use the facilities. I emptied myself, but at the end of my stream I began to bleed. Seriously when I have a flare, I MUST use the bathroom whenever necessary or I WILL bleed.
I find this very unfair that all public places aren't required to provide a restroom, plus making you PAY for it!!!! I wish things were much different
Who else on here has a public dilemma?!?!?!
