I had been diagnosed with IC backin 2007 after going to doctor's over a year to figure out what was wrong with me. I haven't had a flare in over a year until this past Monday and I think it may be the worst IC flare yet. I went onto the doctor's office to do an instillation, as these have always helped me in the past, and realized soon after that the doctor forgot to add the hydrocortisone to the installation, which had always helped me in the past. The mix I was used to was Lidocaine, Heparin, Sodium Bicarb, and Cortisone. I went to the gyne yesterday, and she diagnosed me with PID, and was put on antibiotics. I woke up this morning feeling alot better, but my bladder still hurts. I have tried pyridium, hot water salt bath, warn compresses, advil, claritin, and even antibiotics this past week and nothing seems to get this flare to go away. I have always been able to eat whatever I wanted, even in a flare, due to the installations. Now I am starting to think that I cant eat/drink whatever I want, but the thought of thta is just excruciating to me. My doctor wants to put me on Elavil and I am afraid of the hairl oss side effects so I havent taken it. Any recommendations? thoughts?

Sorry you are flaring. Hope your flare passes soon.
I have never heard of Elavil causing hair loss. Elmiron is the drug that is known to cause hair loss in some people.
Elavil may cause some weight gain though, but I still think its worth a try.
You may want to start at a low dose to see if it causes any side effects.

I suggest you give the IC diet a try. There's a link to the latest food list in my signature below. Most ICers have at least a few food/drink triggers. I know it's a challenge, but well worth it to stop the pain.
