  • Recipe for a Flare

I had been enjoying a really good stretch of bladder health over the last 5 months until last weekend. Here's how my remission ended.

Saturday Evening : I ate an enchilada dinner at a Mexican resturaunt with my boyfriend. It was my decision, I decided to slurge a little and see if I could get away with it. The Mexican food only icreased my freqency a litle by Sunday Morning.

Sunday Afternoon : We got invited to our next door neighbors for an afternoon swim in their brand new in-ground swimming pool.

Sunday Night: We had very lively session of intercourse.

Mexican Food + Chloinated Swimming Pool Water + Sex = IC FLARE!

By Monday morning my bladder bladder was really angry. My frequency was way up and I felt like I had a bladder full full of razor blades. On Tuesday I thought it might be a UTI as my urine got really cloudy so I went got tested at the uro's office. The diptest was negative but I was given a 3 day course of Cipro just to be on the safe side and they sent the sample off to the lab to be culutured. The culture came back negative this afternoon. Here it is late in the evening on Friday and I am still dealing with the results of my indiscretions mand complancey. I struggled thru work on Monday. I took Tuesday and Wednesday off completely and worked from home all day Thursday and today I wasted an already scheduled vacation day nursing my poor diseased bladder. Tonight I am sooooooo miserable. In recent weeks I was almost ready to make a post in the remission section an declare myself in remission. I have had only a couple of flares this year and they were very minor and short-lived only lasting a 3-4 days each. Now I feel like I am back to square-one. I am peeing 3-4 times an hour during the day and waking up to pee 3 or 4 times a night. I have been in constant pain since Monday morning. I hate having a chronic condtion like IC. It always comes back. I am really feeling down tonight. Cyberhugs and prayers are welcome.

I'm so sorry. I know exactly how you feel. I did the exact same thing, minus the pool, last Saturday and am still paying for it. Damn Mexican food! Why does it have to be so good? I got a rescue instill today and I'm hoping it'll give me some relief but I just keep thinking about this time last week how I was feeling so encouraged that I could get out of the house for a little bit and not be in misery and now it's back to pee, pee, and pee again. Had to watch my boyfriend eat pizza and have a beer while I enjoyed my plain meat and some water. It's SO frustrating how just a little bit of something can send us reeling; feeling like we've just ruined any progress. Somebody was asking me today what I'm not allowed to have and I said to think of pretty much anything that is enjoyable and strike that off the list.

TexasHoney, I sure hope you get out of your flare soon. Cyber hugs and good vibes coming your way!

I'm so sorry you're flaring again and hope you feel better quickly.

I eat pizza --- I just order something without tomato sauce. It's actually very good. For a lot of years I didn't have any until I decided to ask about a "no sauce" one.

Don't beat yourselves up we all do this at some point in time. You get feeling pretty good the memory of what the no no foods can do to us in a blink of an eye, fades and we are tempted.

You did it now and you can almost bet you will do it again. We all need reminders sometimes, hopefully our reminders are gone fast.

Hope you feel better soon. MG

I hate this condition. I hope you feel better soon. I don't think I have ever gotten back to feeling good, but I hope that it will come soon. Good luck, long distance hug.
