  • Frustrating and PAINFUL flare

I'm new to the network and would love any help I can get! I am 23 years old and have had IC for about a year and a half. I am in the middle of my first real flare. I have been flaring for almost 2 months. I had the hydro-distention and urethral dilation and it didn't help at all. My symptoms are completely managed by baking soda when I'm not in a flare. I take in once in the morning and I'm good. I can even have soda, coffee, and alcohol. I may need an extra dose here or there but it is very much under control. That being said, I'm very resistant to start medications that are primarily used for maintenance. I tried Levsin, Pyridium, Toradol, Aloe Vera, hydrocodone and drinking copious amounts of water. Nothing seems to help. I have extreme cramping after I empty my bladder. It feels like intense menstrual cramps only lower, like someone squeezing my bladder. The cramps are continuous but severe after I void. I have horrible lower back pain that at times radiates on both sides up to my middle back. I can take the burning, when it happens, and keep it under control with baking soda. I cannot seem to do anything about this pain. The only thing that helps me at all is the heating pad. All I need to do is to get out of the flare and I will be fine. Any help would be amazing! Thank you all for listening!

I suggest you give the diet a try and avoid things like sodas, coffee, and alcohol for a while to see if that helps.

I hope your flare ends soon.

    Warm welcoming hugs,
    Donna

Sorry, I guess I forgot to mention I had done all that. I haven't had anything to drink other than water for over two months. I eat a completely bland diet. No acidic things, no red sauces, no chocolate, very bland. I am drinking copious amounts of water. : ( Thanks for your help!

Drinking not enough water or to much can cause my pain to increase.

Before I knew I had IC an emergency room nurse told me to try drinking more water....I was already drinking a gallon a day ....no wonder I hurt so bad for weeks.
