  • UTI has put me into a flare

I thought I was having just a little flare up 10 days ago but when I was up that Saturday night every half hour to pee I decided to get checked out for a UTI. I went to the emergency room and confirmed it was a UTI and have been on Cipro since then. The UTI was pretty mild but the past few days I have had a lot of burning in the vaginal area and an increase in the urge to pee. Now I think this is a flare up from the UTI but will try to see my Dr. by the end of the week if it persists.
My point is that any sudden change in symptoms are not necessairly a flare and getting checked for a UTI is advisable.

    Uti....

My heart goes to all dealing with a UTI...
I agree with being careful in diferentiating a flare from a UTI. For me UTIs are very distinct from a flare bc I bleed but not everyone bleeds on a UTI so need to be extra careful, check if the urine smells, has any small particles, if it is cloudy etc.

My UTIs are so bad that after a few hours of onset I start peeing what looks like small flakes (pieces of bladder wall), and blood! My protocol is to immediatelly pee on a sterile cup and take macrobid (antibiotic), then I take the cup with my urine to the nearest lab for a culture. Well...I just had to do that.. I had UTI 2 days ago...
I get raging yeast infections from taking antibiotics so I'm on Diflucan as well for (hope) prevention.

What you describe as irritation in the vagina looks to me as yeats infection caused by Cipro which is a very potent antibiotic. Cipro is one of the best antibiotics to take care of a UTI but it gives me a yeast after the first pill! I can't imagine having to take it again for a 5 or 7 day course. NOT everyone gets yeast infections after antibiotics. I know many women who don't. I didn't get them either many years ago until I got IC.
So, just in case you should get checked for yeast for sure. In any case, take probiotics to restore the gastrointestinal flora.

I thought I was getting a UTI last week but the dipstick and culture were both negative. Turns out it's doozy of a yeast infection and it's still going strong this week. Diflican hasn't kicked in. Today my frequency is way up but my pain is not really in my bladder like it is with UTI's and flares but my vagina is on fire and I've got major discharge. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Thanks Texas Honey....I got rid of the yeast and the UTI is gone too.
I am still having to get up 3 times a night since the UTI and I had been down to only once before the UTI. Grrrrrrr

UTIs always give me a flare. I had 2 follow-up urinalysis done after the most recent infection of June 7th. Both tests showed that the UTI had cleared. I started using Prelief multiples times every day, and eventually have gotten some relief.

Yep, UTI's always trigger a flare for me as well! Just getting over a nasty one. The Cipro works but it makes my joints ache and gives me a yeast infection. You cure one thing and get another...oh well, it's a small trade off.

This painfully reminds me that IC is a chronic condition, it will not go away so I just have to take better care of myself
