  • I am in a terrible flare that won't go away

Help! I need to rant about this terrible flare have been having for the last couple of weeks. I don't get frequency as bad as some people on here I only go about 20 times a day and maybe twice at night. However I have terrible urethra burning and awful pelvic pain. I don't want to leave my couch the pain is so bad and that's with pain killers. Luckily I have a great doctor who I keep calling and keeps seeing me and helping me. (I see him on Tuesday about the pain and burning). I just don't know what to do with myself. my friends want to go to a movie tonight but I can't sit in a theater for two hours in this much pain. I hate taking these pain killers around the clock but I feel as if I have no choice because I have to keep up with my kids. Luckily I'm a stay at home mom but its still exhausting. The laproscopy I had and childbirth pain is nothing compared to the pain I'm having lately. I swear it's a 9 and I usually have a high pain tolerance. The pain gets ten times worse if I have to go to the bathroom and hurts right after I void and then lessen a bit until the next time. The pain is in very specific places so I'm wondering if maybe I have hunners ulcers in those areas. I just don't know what to do with myself, I feel like telling the doctor put in a suprapubic catheter because I can't take the burning anymore!! I feel as if this disease is ruining my life at times!!
Does anyone else have similiar flares like this? Thanks for letting me rant and I'm so glad this sight is here, I'm not sure what I would do if something like this wasn't here for people with IC.

    Take: elmiron 2twice a day
    Cymbalta once a day
    Prosed ds as needed
    Lydocaine gel for sex
    Tramadol as needed
    Oxycodone as needed
    Orthro Evra Patch continuously
Diagnosed with severe IC April 2011

Suffered for 8 years without a diagnoses
I'm 23 and have always had issues but when I was 16 things got much worse. I saw urologists, pediatricians, and gynecologists and nobody had any answers it was either in my head or an infection. Finally found a wonderful doctor who diagnosed me with IC

Jessica, I know exactly how you feel. I'm currently in a flare that's almost 2 weeks old myself. About all I can tell you is keep taking you meds and make sure you are drinking enough water top keep your urine diluted and hopefully your bladder will calm down soon. Are you sticking to the IC diet? It helps me most of the time but somtimes I flare regardless. That's whats happening to me right now. I hope you get to feeling better real soon.

Thank you so much for your support and yes I do follow the diet. I'm just at a lost at this point. I don't know what to do to make it better. I am so glad I have a good doctor who sees me often enough to help me through this. I just wish Tuesday would come faster!

I am flairing right now too. It stinks and I know how much it hurts. I am taking Azo and it seems to be helping a bit. This is the first time I have taken it. Also baths and rest. Althought i am wide awake now. Hope you are feeling better very very soon!!

              Hey girls,,

As Andrea stated ahhhh what exciting lives I have been on and off flaring for over a month. What helps me is def ice pack pressed between my legs and in my water bottle I put half peppermint herb ice tea with water and 1/2 tbl spoon baking soda....as well as azo or perdium and IC diet............so that does seem to help and I am starting to feel better more than not. I hope that helps you guys. The blander your diet during a flare the better I have discovered for me atleast. hugs to you all

I didn't sleep at all last night either. I tossed and turned all night along with going to the bathroom 7 times last night. At 9am I decided to go to the urgent care so that I could get some pain relief until my appointment. Luckily they were very supportive and wrote me a script no problem. I also decided to write a letter to my doctor about how much pain I was in while I was in pain so that he could have a good idea of what I have been going through. I was worried that come Tuesday I wouldn't be able to explain everything right so I wrote it down for him. I am so blessed to have the kind of caregivers that I have. I haven't always had this good of a care system but I would tell anyone that once you find that right doctor stick with them. Also I found out today that my pharmacist has IC so most of the people who are around me understand what I'm going through and I just feel incredibly blessed. I hope my flare and everyone else's ends soon and I'm praying for a cure.

                  Thanks again for the support,
                  Jessica

I'm the same age as you Rose. How do you get doctors to prescribe you things? I feel they're really reluctant because of my age.

I'm also flaring. I don't really have anything to say except my flares can last several weeks. I already missed my first day of uni because of this..

                    • Had symptoms since I was 5
                    • Been on forums since '07, knew I had this since then, received mild treatment without true diagnosis due to anxiety. Diagnosed by symptoms on 4/08/11.
                    • Had first horrible flare in 07, bad doctors, had to research IC myself to clue in onto what it was. After following the diet I went into remission.
                    • Big flare in 09 due to an untreated bladder infection. Went back into remission in 2012.
                    • Symptoms returned 4/1/15. All of my remissions have ended in April-May or September-October. It sounds like a connection to seasonal allergies to me..

Currently: Continuous Birth Control, vaginal valium (10/6/11), Elmiron (4/08/11), UTA (4/08/11), continuous Trimethoprim for infections (10/6/11), Heating pad, Benedryl, harsh diet

What I know works: Benedryl, diet, birth control, UTA, valium, ditropan, soma

What didn't work: Elavil, vistaril (12/22)

Nekura- I am very up front and honest about my treatment and my doctor trusts me and knows that if I wasn't in pain I wouldn't need them. When I went into the urgent care they knew I had an appointment with my doctor and I told them I just needed to get to the appointment. I explained what I had and what medications I was on. Then I just told them how much pain I was in and that I would also be having this discussion with my doctor later in the week. My heart rate was elevated and I had a slight fever so they could tell my body was in pain by my vital signs but really I think it's because I have a doctor who trusts me and that I'm very up front and honest. If you explain exactly what your going through and how it's seriously disrupting your life then they are more open about giving pain meds. You really have to give them examples like I'm missing school and social outings because of my pain. If pain is disrupting your life that's not normal. Anyway I hope that helps.

                      Good luck to you
