  • Norco Isn’t Working

I have been on Norco since May. I have had to increase my dose over time and now it has stopped working in the last week or so. I feel so much more pain than usual and thought I had triggered a flare myself from food, stress, etc but even with the pain meds and taking an extra pill a day, it hasn’t been good.

How do I handle this? I’ve been on a slew of other meds for IC. Been to pelvic floor therapy, acupuncture, done the antidepressant route, gabapentin, massage, muscle relaxers, the whole 9.

I refuse to keep taking more Norco to try and get the same effect. I lasted 3 days on Elavil. I couldn’t feel my bladder the third dose but I couldn’t feel anything else either and I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I ran a red light and almost got in an accident and coming off of it was hell too.

What do I tell my pain doc? I also was just diagnosed with endometriosis which is believed to have been existing for several years due to chronic pelvic pain long before IC.

My follow up with my pain doc isn’t for another 10 days or so. I’ve read meds can be alternated. I don’t want to be addicted to painkillers. I tried antihistamines too. Nothing.

Flexeril made me jittery and irritatble and then knocked me out for an hour or so.

UTI tests all negative. Not pregnant. Follow IC diet closely. Sleep with a heating pad and have one at work.

OB wants me to get an IUD for endometriosis pain. I’m not comfortable with a foreign object in my uterus or the risks and side effects that come with it.

Ive gone the natural route with herbs and marshmallow root and cystoprotek and all.

I NEED HELP. Norco was great for a while and now I’m in so much pain again. I took two Advil just to see if it would
help the cramping since my period is due soon.

Birth control pills are absorbed systemically and are known for upsetting your bowels. I have severe IBS-D and my OB said they have the potential to mess with every aspect of my system with the oral route.

I will get injections for pain or whatever else I can do.

Does birth control ever help with IC? Some people on here say it got better once they got off it. I only took it once for acne at a young age.

What else can I do? I’ve read and read and tried and tried.
I can’t believe this is my life. I’m dealing with a breakup too. I don’t know if I should cry or scream but I’m done pretending it’s all ok.

    plese help.

I'm glad you are seeing a pain specialist. I would be in a really tough place without mine. Have you tried a smooth muscle relaxant? Instillations? Some find that rescue instillations help --- and some do them at home as often as daily or even twice daily. Also, since hormone fluctuations seem to have an effect on symptoms, some are on birth control to help avoid this. I hope you feel better soon. I know you're having a difficult time right now.

    Sending warm hugs,
    Donna

Hi Donna! Smooth muscle relaxant as in Bentyl or Levsin? I tried one of those for IBS years ago but didn’t have IC then. I would never be able to do instillations myself and I have a huge fear of UTI that I cannot chance do to not being able to take antibiotics because of my cdiff history and fecal transplants
