  • Shearing pain down my spine

    Hey,

Does anyone get shearing pain down your spine in the middle from IC? It's 6:30 in the morning here and I just took some pain meds at 6am, so I am waiting for them to kick in, but this is horrible.

I was wondering if it was from IC. Never in all my life did I think IC could cause back, pelvic and spinal pain until having it.

And, thanks so much to everyone. This board is a lifesaver because I am newly diagnosed as of January and don't know what I would have done if I couldn't come here and be honest...esp. the days when I am at my worst.

Please pray today will be better. Our friends are leaving our home and it is my first day alone with my husband in just over a week. I want it to be a nice one.

    Take Care,
    April
Diagnosed in 2007, but had IC symptoms since 2002. My current regimen includes: home instillations of Marcaine, Heparin and Solu-Medrol plus vaginal valium suppositories nightly. I also use Tramadol for pain as needed.

Is there any possibility you strained your back? I hope the pain meds kick in soon so you feel better.

    Warm hugs,
    Donna

I know that I get lower back pain with my IC; it was one of the first hints something was the matter when I was first diagnosed....during that horrible, first pain flare of my life (previously I'd just had frequency and some urgency) I had terrible urgency/frequency, then a pain right in the middle of my lower back, and then finally the horrible cramping, stabbing pelvic pain.

I still get lower back pain.

However, if it's new for you and it continues to be that bad, it might be a good idea to mention it to your doc.

Thanks guys. I think it might be from my IC. It has really been flaring a lot lately. I also had an epidural Wednesday in that general area. Anyway, I don't think it's a sprain, but it's aggravating.

        Thanks for your thoughts.

          April,

The pain you can sometimes feel after an epidural can last for a few days to a week. If it lasts longer or intensifies, please consider calling your doctor. I've had running epidurals for weeks at time so I do have some experience with this.

I have back pain like that all the time. My Uro says it's not related, but I am positive it is. I had the instillation and I instantly had pain like a knife up and down my back. Then it went down my leg and my leg went numb. Right after the instillation? Not related? I don't think so.

Thanks so much guys. Kara, I think you're on to something. They went down lower with the epidural this time and thank goodness this is my last one for probably a year. Also, sometimes I get the same kind of pain when I do the instillations. I think those nerves are interrelated.

And, I LOVE my heating pad...but I am not supposed to be using it until Sunday or Monday since my epidural was Wednesday. They said just ice packs...which do not have the same effect. I might have to cheat on the heating pad.

Anyway, right now it's better...so we'll see what happens.

                    Ronda,

That sounds great. I want to get out of the house more, but lately it has been tough. We have to figure out how to travel, bring the supplies for the instillations and deal with the IC junk. Anyway, hopefully we'll get to travel some soon. We really want to get out and see some family. Please pray for us, but especially my husband...who has been the best, most patient one ever. I don't think I could ask for a better one.
