  • Some nurses

Well today I called the Uro's office for a refill on my Ultram. I went last November and got a script with 11 refills. There are 40 pills to a bottle. I take 2 a day for a total of 6 in one day. So anyway I call and then like 5 minutes later they call back, but I could not get to the phone. So I call her back at 1:00 after lunch and she was like he just wrote you a prescription for this with 11 refills . I said yes but, I take 6 in one day and that was in November. I said this was the ONLY MED I can take that even remotely helps my IC. I told her it was not like I was calling in for Lortabs or etc, (which he never prescribes for IC) and even so I told her they work better. So she says well its on his desk but he has not even signed it yet. So I told her if he wont sign it he will have to send be some where to get them. All of this conversation and I know my doctor does not even come in till the afternoon. So after all of that like not even 5 minutes later she calls and says he has approved them. DUHHHH

That is what I find so irrate. Sometimes the nurses will not even talk to the doctor before they pass judgement on anyone. And i only use Ultram and for most of us it does not work. I dont understand why they do this. But enough of my ranting. Thanks for the ear or shall I say Eye

I know what you mean. Before I was diagnosed with IC, I went in to the emergency clinic in town at midnight on a saturday with a severe flare. At the time I thought it was an infection that had happened suddenly and I was desperate for relief. I run up to the desk, holding my bladder, jumping up and down and crying and the nurse/ receptionist (same person at this clinic) said, "what are you here for?" I said "I think I have a bladder infection." She says "ok pee in this cup" I said "I'll try, I'm not sure I can I just peed before I came here and I cant really get anything out" she said "Well it certainly LOOKS like you need to go" I about slapped the woman...... I did manage to get enough out and nothing showed up in the urine... it was the incident that made my gp suspect IC and I was sent to a uro. Ultimately it was good but I still cringe thinking about the ignorance/ meanness of that nurse....

I think all nurses should have to talk with the doctor before talking back with the patient. They should never use their "judgment" on anything. That is what the doctor is for. They can give ideas about stuff but nothing should be final until the doctor has spoken. I wondered how many doctors would be shocked to find out that patients have called in with very serious concerns and the doctors were never even told about them.

I have done that so many times... the pee pee dance and hardly anything comes out. Literally drops comes out. Those are the days I call out of work and sit on the toilet all day with a magazine b/c it's not worth getting up every 2 mins to pee and have nothing coming out! It's horrible

One good thing is that the nurse did talk with the doctor and did get your refill ordered. And asking questions is a part of a nurse's job --- if the nurse is able to get the needed information from a patient, it not only saves time for the doctor, it gets action for the patient much more quickly. If you got a call-back that quickly, it means that nurse cared enough to bring your request to the doctor's attention very promptly.

I agree they are usually really well about calling back fairly quickly. I dont think I have ever talk to her. It was just the way she approach me about it. He does not even get in to the office till 1:00 and he approved it right away. It is just sometimes they make judgements without getting the whole story and when she called I think she had her judgement already made about me....But it got called in so that was all that matters. I go see him next week about my InterStim removal post op anyways.

I just was upset when I wrote it, because they have never done that to me before.
