Body getting used to pain killers?

I just got back from vacation on Monday, but my poor body is still recuperating from all the eating out (I tried SO HARD to stick to the diet) and all the shaky subway rides and 13 hours in the car! So anyways, I am finding that with all this increased pain the Vicadin is not doing much and wears off after two hours or so. I cannot take more than 1 every 4 hours, but am in alot of pain. I don't see my Doctor until the 25th but have decided to call his office before the Holidays tomorrow b/c I do not want to end up at our tiny little ER this weekend with doctor's who don't know me and possibly know little about IC as well. My concern is that my body is becoming too tolerant of pain killers. Is this common? I have been using Vicadin as a pmr for well over 6 months now. I have to take it at least once a day because I am in constant pain. I am on Depo-provera birth control shot and have had a period for about 6 weeks now and have had alot of flares and have had to take more Vicadin than usual. If that is the case I am praying my Uro will help me. We had talked about starting Valium and an anti-seizure drug (possible Norontine sp?) when I go back to see him. I would love to not take pain killers at all if possible, but I am in pain on a regular basis and now am having HORRIBLE pain! I know there is a great pain specialist right down the hall from my Uro, so I feel like I am in good hands. I just had so many bad experiences with Doctors not helping me with my pain and other symptoms up until I found my current Doctor that I am still nervous that I will be turned away like so many times before. I wish so much I could just get all of this under control! It has been 10 months now with daily pain and it is wearing me out!
