  • New Symptom?

I'm not really sure what's going on here. I've cut back to only one Elmiron a day and am still on the Elavil, so I am expecting flares, but this is something new.
It seems like every time I go to the bathroom it makes it worse. For instance, we left the house this morning and I went pee and as soon as we got into the truck I started to flare (pain in my abdomen and urethra and that wonderful "have to pee again already" feeling). So I was trying to wait it out till the next town about 30mins away, and by then the feeling was gone. In fact I didn't pee for another 2hrs. Then we needed to go downtown for something and I peed right before and another flare. Then it ended about a half hour later again. Then it happened again on the way home.
Its actually a really intense flare. When we started home and it came on again I was about ready to start bawling, not only because I had been doing so well, but also because it was really hurting. Then it stopped and now I feel fine and its been about 4hrs since I peed (a long time for me on a good day) and I feel fine.
What is going on here??? Anyone else have this happen? I can deal with it (emotionally anyways) as long as I know that it won't get any worse, just getting worried that this is going to be a long med-free road while TTC.

Leah, I have that same thing. Sometimes I think it would be better if I don't go. Seems the bladder isn't happy if we do go or we don't. Sorry you are feeling worse having to give up your meds. Maybe your doctor will have some kind of an idea. There has to be something you can take.

(((((((((((meme))))))))))))) this is how my moms ic is. It may be because you cut back on the elmiron. It could be something totally different. Call your doc and see what he has to say. I hope the pain lets up soon.

I get that feeling, too. My doc tells me to give it 48 hours and if I don't get better, I can come in for an installation. The installations really help, though they did not for the first 3 weeks.

I do really believe that you need to take care of yourself when you are feeling like that otherwise, it might lead to a few day or even a week long ordeal. Driving in a car is terrible for my IC especially when I'm in a flare. I just stay home, with a heating pad on me, or take a hot bath and relax. I also take a percocet which will take the pain away for me.

I hope you feel better soon!

HI I get that feeling too some times. After peeing I get that feeling of needing to go again.....but if I can just hold out for a bit (esp. if I'm sitting and not standing or walking) it'll go away, till the next time. I have on idea what brings it on....or why it goes away...I'm just happy when it does! If it gets really bad I take an AZO (even tho I hate what it does if you drip on your underwear!).
I hope you can figure it out! Good luck! Roxie

For IC I use Elmiron, Elavil and Freeze dried Aloe Vera (it works likes Elmiron, but naturally)and Azo as needed. I also take Zegerid, Randitine for Barrett's Esophagus. (which causes me to have constant yeast infections!)I take Cymbalta for Neuopathy/Myopathy pain. I use the Climara patch for menopause symptoms. I'm on a very strict diet because of the IC, IBS and Gastric Bypass. I take Primal Defense Probiotics and whole food Iron.
I no longer have the awful urethral pain! I've been using MSM gel now for 4 mo. and haven't had a flare up or the urethra pain.....it's amazing stuff!!:woohoo:
