  • Pain pill crisis

Oh My gosh you guys, I just counted my pain pills and I missing almost 3 days worth of medication! I cant believe this, I dont know how or where these pills could have gone. I got 2 months worth last time I got my refill and I have been traveling a lot lately, the only thing I can think of is that I lost a few of the pills. I dont know how I could have lost so many though.
I am totally, totally wigged out abouut it. This is like my worst nightmare. I am going to have to go a couple days without my pain pills and I am so scared to do that. I could just get my script a couple days early but I cant because he is already giving it to me a couple days early b/c it has to be filled and mailed to Hawaii, which takes a long time anyway. I was already worried about that because it can take up to 5 days for it to get here and I cant get it too early.
I HATE this about the pain pills. I hate feeling to damn dependent on these things. Everyone around me just says, well just go a couple days without taking them, what is the big deal??? But we know it isnt like that.
I havent been able to sleep since I figured this out yesterday., My heart is just racing and I am panicking!!!
    What should I do?

    Oh no Sarah,
I'm so sorry that your pills are missing. I can only imagine how much you are freaking out. I would freak out if my pain pills were missing. I hope that you can work something out so you won't have to go a couple of days w/o your pain meds. I know the panic though because my uro gave me vicoden for my pain at the end of last month and then once he confirmed the IC from my biopsy he started me on new meds but didn't want to give me any more pain pills at all! I don't take the vicoden every four hours like it's prescribed but it scares the crap out of me that I'm going to run out and not be able to get anymore. He said he thinks that the new meds will cut my pain down a lot and I won't need them, but what am I supposed to do in the mean time! I hope you find your pills, do you ever put them in a different container for when you're going to be away from home? I have a pill bottle I keep in my purse so I have all my meds when I'm at work or out. Just a thought, but I'm sure you already thought of that.
    Christine

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

I feel for you...Do think someone stole your pills? Because if they did you might want to hide them because if they steal once from you then they might do it again...

HI! Sorry for all you are going through with the missing pills. It could be that you were shorted from the Pharmacy. It's happened to me several times and now I count my pills before I leave the pharmacy. It's a real pain but with pain meds....you have to have every pill and don't want to find out later that the count is wrong! So it might be that you lost them.......maybe you never had them! Roxie

(which causes me to have constant yeast infections!)I take Cymbalta for Neuopathy/Myopathy pain. I use the Climara patch for menopause symptoms. I'm on a very strict diet because of the IC, IBS and Gastric Bypass. I take Primal Defense Probiotics and whole food Iron.
I no longer have the awful urethral pain! I've been using MSM gel now for 4 mo. and haven't had a flare up or the urethra pain.....it's amazing stuff!!:woohoo:

Call your doc and explain what happened. If you have a good track record with your doc he will most likely mail your Rx to you earlier than he usually does.

Thank you all for your concern.
I know that I got them all from the pharmacy b/c they were in 2 sealed bottles so I am pretty sure they were all there.
I guess there is always the possibility that someone stole them but that just seems so unlikely. I have had pain pills stolen from me before, a whole month worth! but this time the only people who could have had access to them are my mom and my husband and I am pretty sure neither of them would have taken them.
The only thing I can think of is I take out a few days at a time and put it in a pill carrier in my purse and this month I was a little more careless b/c i was traveling for so much of the time, so maybe I lost some? I dont know how I would lost 8 pills though? I just dont get it.
I will go in to serious withdrawals if I go 3 days without my pain pills. I am on a pretty high dose of oxycontin, so I cant just quit taking it.
I am just hoping so much that my package gets here fast this week. My mom is going to try to send it on Monday so that it will hopefully get here by Thursday. I will be out on Tuesday, so I will have a miserable few days, I guess.
Thank you again for your support

I know it's expensive, but have you thought about having your meds sent FedEx Overnight? I think the cost would be worth not going into withdrawal.
I know what you mean about having to "have" the pain meds. It really does suck! I get so tired of living my life around a couple of bottles of meds. I started saving pills about a year ago for this very reason. Like, if I get my meds filled a day or two early, or if I think I can skip a pill here or there or space out a few hours here or there to save a pill or two a week. I've actually saved up about a month's worth doing that. I've tried living without pain meds for this very reason - I don't like having to rely on others to have my pain levels at tolerable levels. It seems so wrong! I've got a great PM Dr now, but we all know how quickly that can change. Hopefully it won't.
I really do feel for you. I had a Uro once who would only prescribe the pain meds a week at a time and I had to call his nurse to get them. She would intentionally not return my calls for a day or two. When I asked her about it, she said that I was such a nice person that she was just trying to keep me from becoming addicted to them! I would get so incredibly sick in between, not to mention that my pain would be through the roof! It made me feel like a criminal! I finally stopped going to the Dr and just decided that I could do it on my own w/o meds or Drs. After over a year and a half of that (which, btw, didn't go very well! ), I went back to a Pain clinic. That's when I first started "saving" my pain meds.
I hope you're able to get your meds quickly and don't have to go through any unneccessary pain.

I am so sorry this happened to you! I have been there too and it is terrible! I dont know how the whole Hawaii things works, so if this is not possible, just ignore this, but is it possible to get your Mom to send it out Fed EX overnite? If she did that on Mon you could get it Tues. That would cut out 2 days worth. Like I said, I dont know if they do overnite to Hawaii or not, but just throwing that out there. (If it were possible, I am sure you'd have already thought of it, but I thought I'd mention it in case you are too panicked to think straight....I know I was when I was missing some once!)

I hope you find them. BTW, did you dump out your purse and see if there is a hole in the lining of it? I have had that happen before too. Also, check under the seats and beside the seats in your vehicle. (I have thrown my purse in and my pill container fell out and dumped them before. If the pill container's lid was loose, then they could have fallen out in there. Just a thought.)

I am worried sick for you. I think everyone who has ever been in this situation read your post and got that sick feeling too. I pray you find them.

Let us know if they turn up!

                Sending prayers and hugs,
                Amy

Thank you Elle. I actually have looked in to the FedEx overnight, as well as UPS shipping and they only do 2-3 days to where we live, in the boonies of Hawaii. If I was anywhere on the mainland, then it would be overnight. So I am stuck having to wait a couple days.
I have spoken to my doctor and released my script right away on Monday, which was the soonest he could do because I called him on Friday afternoon. My mom is a teacher and has to pick up the script, drop it off at the pharmacy and wait for it, then go and mail it to me right away. So it probably wont happen right away on Monday.
That is a good idea about saving up the pain pills. I tried to do that one time but ended up not getting very many b/c I would get my script right on time or a few days late. I need to do that though cause I hate this! So much.

I'm so sorry, Sarah. I wish there was something I could do to help you! Hang in there! Hopefully the couple of days of waiting will speed by for you.

Amy - I actually laughed out loud after I read your post and saw the time it was posted! I have thought many times while reading your other posts than you and I seem to think along the same lines. When I saw that we posted the same response within 1 minute of each other, I had to laugh!

I really appreciate everyones support, it makes this a little easier. At least all of you dont just say " so just dont take any for a few days!" I am just going to try to knuckle through this and hope that the days fly until Wednesday. I will probably be tracking the mailman down on Wed!!
Amy, I am going to check in the car and my purse, along with my luggage because maybe something did fall out and I will find at least some of the pills.
One thing my hubby brought up that worried me is maybe my dogs might find and eat one of the pills. I really hope not, I think it could kill them. But they wouldnt taste good, so hopefully they wouldnt be interested!
                        Love Sarah

When I was in Hawaii last year, I had a sudden flare and not enough pain meds with me. I don't know where you are in Hawaii, but I just walked into a walk-in clinic in Kailua, explained to the Nurse Practitioner what was going on, and she wrote a scrip for 30 vicodin for me. It's not what I take, but it was a whole lot better than nothing! Maybe you could do something like that?

One thing that I have done in the past that helped me is to take Draminie when having to wait for pain meds. It really did keep me from being incredibly sick from withdrawal on a couple of occassions. I know you said you had plans for the next few days, so I don't know if that would work for you or not. It doesn't make me sleepy at all, but I know it will knock my Mom out for several hours if she takes it. It's really quite funny how different we all respond to things. Anyway...just a thought...
