Does anyone take Zanaflex for Pelvic Floor Dysfunction or for Vulvondyia? My doctor prescribed it for me today but I have not taken it yet. Should I try the first one at bedtime? Does it also help with the IC pain?
    Thanks
    Miss Bessie

I take it for muscle spasms related to fibro and it does help stop my bladder spasms too. I only take it at night because it is the one medication that knocks me out. If I take it during the day I'm so sleepy I can barely hold my head up. So, yes, definately try taking it at night and see how it effects you.

04/17/09 Crohn's disease almost killed me with a combo of extreme constipation from pain medications. My bowel ruptured, I almost died from peritonitis and spent several days in the ICU then more in a private room on the floor. If you have any questions about severe constipation from pain meds please don't hesitate to send me a message.

I take it sometimes in the day, but only take 1/2. It does work. I took it at night for the first time last night and it was hard to get up at first. I slept about nine hours straight. Don't take when you are going to drive. Let me know how it does for you. I just started on it last week.
        Meds on now:

        dextro 10mg

5000mg Vitamin D- when tested, I was sooo low.
Compound Hormones- Had hysterectomy when 24, ovaries out 37

        At night:

        4mg Zanaflex- Fibro & PFD
        plendil- Raynalds

I have Fibro, IC, IBS, PFD, Raynauds.

        Tried:

        Past Meds
Lexpro- changed to Cymbalta for better pain relief –off both
Ultram – three times a day. Helped , I was tired of always being so tired.
        Elmiron-took for a year-
Topamax-Did not need anymore since on dextro.
        Atarax- did not need anymore

I agree with the others...I would try it at nite first. I am also on it. I take 4mg 3x a day. In the beginning, I couldnt take the day time doses b/c it would knock me out. It took me several months before I could do it w/o getting tired. It also helps me alot with the bladder spasms. I hope it brings you alot of relief! Just dont forget, if you ever get a UTI and they put you on Cipro, dont take it with Zanaflex...they can have dangerous interactions when taken together.

          Hugs,
          Amy

The Zanaflex tablets are scored so you can cut them in half or quarters depending on what dose your doc prescribed. I take 4mg at bedtime along with Ambien CR and Rozerem and Atarax. I still have problems getting more than 3 hours of sleep. I take 2mg during the day when my muscle spasms are so bad I can't get up out of a chair. I would try 1mg at first to see if it makes you sleepy. If not, slowly increase your dose until you have reached the dose your doc prescribed. If your doc prescribed more than 2mg, ask him/her about titrating your dose so that you aren't soo sleepy after taking it.
