  • First Appt with Pain Doc

Well I went to my first appt with a Pain Doc and I have to say it went very well. He says that he has treated "quite a few IC pt". He started me on a med called Lyrica...he said it is used for the nerves....not sure just yet I have to do some research on it. Then he upped my vicoden....from the 7/50 to 10/325. He said that it has more codiene and less tyle. Better for the liver.

But over all it was a decent appt. He also talked about doing nerve blocks and putting something in my body. He did not go into detail...he said we would cover that if it is needed.

I told him that I truly just want to be able to function again and be able to play with my kids and make love to my husband u know.

So I will see him again in a month.:woohoo: I'm glad that I started seeing a pain doc....maybe it will help.

I am so glad that you are seeing a pain Dr. now! I am glad the appt went well. I also see a pain Dr. They started me on Lyrica at my last appt. (I am also on KAdian and Lortab.) I was on a similar med, Neurotin, for a long time, but it never helped much, so 2 months ago they took me off it and started Keppra. I had bad side effects with it, so last month we started Lyrica. So far, I cant tell much, except I have been eating the house down and gained 8lbs this month. *sigh* I hate that, and certainly dont need to gain weight. (As you can see from my pic, I am fluffy enough as it is!) But, not everyone has the same side effects, and hopefully you wont. I hope that it works for you and you get alot of relief. But, if you DO notice an increase in your appetite, it is the Lyrica, so just try to be aware of it and let your Dr. know if it happens to you. (There are still tons of other meds in that same class to try, so dont worry about that part!)

Hope you get some relief! Congrats on finding a Dr. you like that knows about IC!

        Hugs,
        Amy

I took lyrica also, but it ended up really making my bladder feel worse so I had to stop it. It has been said that it can help some people with the IC pain though, especially of it is nerve pain related. Good luck and I hope it works for you.

I'm glad your appointment went well. I really believe in them. I go to one as well, in Austin. I see the Nurse Pract. In fact I go tomorrow. I usually see her once every 3 months. I take hydrocone for pain 10mg; She really doesn't want to give me other medicines as she has talked to my cardio and they don't want to mess up my heart medications.

I am also thankful that I go to a pain management clinic.

I'm another Lyrica taker -- and another who has gained weight from it. But, I keep taking it because it does help the shooting types of pain from the bladder, and it has done absolute wonders for my fibromyalgia!

I just started seeing a pain dr, too. It's been a good experience, he's taken my input and pretty much let me decide what to try. Having some problems, though, fine tuning the meds, so have ANOTHER appt on Friday to see what we'll do.

I'm happy to hear that your appt went so well for you. I'm thinking about asking my uro for a referral to a pain dr when I go back in july. He doesn't want to give me pain meds on a regular basis. He gives me like 30 vicoden and then I try to make those last as long as I can, then when I run out I wait until I have a bad flare and then call and ask for more. I hate that I have to call and get more meds not to mention the fact that I end up paying a copay for the rx each time when I could get a whole month for $10 instead of 30 pills, ugh

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)
