  • Severe strong urges during/just waking up.

Ever since I've been back from the ER monday night, I have near constant bladder pain, but it seems to get worse while I'm sleeping. I went to bed last night around midnight and woke-up 20 minutes ago or so and my bladder is killing me.

It feels like I need to urinate so badly even though my bladder is empty, I think.. My catheter is draining, but the pain is going away.. If it doesn't go away by 8am, I'm thinking about going to the ER..

Does anyone else have this problem after wakeing up from a sleep?..

My best suggestion would be a trip to ER --- it could very well be an infection from having a catheter. I hope you're able to get rid of it soon.

      Warm healing thoughts,

When I went to ER last saturday, they said I had a trace of infection and gave me Levaquin, which caused my catheter to clog, but I did finish the five days worth, but the medicine just seem to make the pain more constant while I was taking it..

I have to wait till Tuesday before seeing my Doctor. The ER here isn't very helpful at all, they think everyone is there because they're drug addicts. They look at me like I'm a pusher just because I know what my desease is and tell them about it. meh

There is little else that makes me angrier than docs/ERs that act as if we are drug seekers simply because we are knowledgable of our bodies and our disease. For cryin out loud, can't anyone have legitimate pain anymore???grrrrrr I am sorry to vent, but Coyote, I hate the way you are being treated, and I feel so sorry that you are in so much pain. I hope you are feeling better soon grouphug

            Coyote,
I always wake up with that feeling, I mean that is what wakes me up, then I go and usually it is dribbles. I am having another cysto with hydro on 12-29 to see if anything new is going on, I just finished my 12 weeks of elmiron bladder instills, and don't feel like anything is different, so here I am. I hope we can both find some relief, it is so discouraging to be treated badly like you were at the ER, it makes me think, "what if that person had a red hot poker put down there on them, then they would know how we feel". Sorry to be so rude, but I just wish people would try and understand what we are going through, and if they can't just don't say anything to us!!! Hope you get some relief soon, prayers and hugs to you. grouphug grouphug .

Currently on pain mgmt, lidocaine gel topically also gives some relief after initial 2-4 min burning when applied.

              Coyote,

Maybe levaquin wasn't the right antibiotic, I hate to know you are in pain. I also know how the ER can be when you have to keep going back and back they begin to think your either a drug addict or a hypochondriac(sp). I would definately see my uro or my GP, there has to be something they can do. My prayers are with you.

              Success

Coyote, you really should have had a culture done to be certain you are on the appropriate antibiotic. Levaquin is one of the broad spectrum antibiotics and is frequently given to begin with while waiting for the culture results. I just hope when you see your doctor on Tuesday, you will get some relief.

                Sending healing thoughts,
                Donna

You should always finsih your antibotics no matter what. I am on cipro and I don't think the cipro helped my uti. It helped and now it is back full force. I need to get another culture done and I can call and see if the urine grew anything. sometiimes my urine doesn't grow anything and it is the ic acting up. but I did have a small uti a week before Christmas when I saw the uro then. Please let us know how you are doing. gentle hugs and healing thoughts. grouphug grouphug

I have been having morning IC pain a lot recently....for me I think it is because bladder is most acidic since I haven't eaten for atleast 8 hours (the whole time I slept) so lots of stomach acid but nothing in the stomach. Calcium has been helping me.

I pray for you always and hope you find the answers you need. grouphug hi

Had less pain this morning since I slept sitting on couch. Instead of laying down, I had back/head rested upon the arm of the couch and took off a cushion so the bottom half of my legs could bend.

Thankfully, this little idea worked and gave me a better nights sleep, bladder pain was moderate, unlike the last few days in which is was almost severe.

I always hurt severly in the mornings when I first wake and after I do pee, I have spasms for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. I take a pain pill as soon as I wake and try to hold it as long as I can until the meds kick in but the Lortab isnt strong enough.

Im sorry for the way the ER treated you... I too have felt as if they thought I was a drug-seeker cause I knew what was wrong with me... its a shame that docs treat us this way.

I hope you find some relief soon... please keep us posted.

I went to the ER several months ago for severe pain. I wanted to make sure I didnt have an infection, they did a urine and a culture and everything was ok so it was just the old IC flaring up. The ER doctor looked at me like I was nuts when I told him that I already had pain meds and had already taken pain meds before I came and would just have to take more and do my other "comfort measures" to try to get some relief. He was floored that I wasnt there for pain meds. He didnt have any idea what IC was and left for a long period of time to do some reading on the disease. He treated me very professionally and compationately. Now if I asked for pain meds I dont know how it would have been. Those of us that need pain meds and have to take them are lucky to find doctors who will prescribe narcotic pain medicines to us. I would not be half way functional without them. I am sorry for your bad experience in the ER, it is all a too common experience. People just dont understand what we are going through and I feel that there are alot of others like us that are out there in terrible pain and undiagnosed. Hoping you have pain free days. Susan
