Remember the doctor's work for us!!!!!! If it wasn't for all the sick people in the world they would be out of a job. I never had any luck with my URO. I see my gyno/IC specialist----He is wonderful, too bad you don't live in the South so I could hook you up with Dr. Gray!!!!

My uro is against any pain medication-he only prescribes empracet to me. At times two empracet do not even touch the pain. My gp has prescribed demerol for my extreme flare ups. She is great-I have had numerous flare ups since November-basically perma flares. So my gp has given me fentynl transdermal patches. I just started using them. I was so excited when I finally had my first pain free day in one year. Take to your gp-I don't know why uro's are so against pain medication. I would like to see them live in our shoes for one week.
Take care I will be thinking of you.

If you contact Jess214 she has a great Uro. team. Dr. Bailey and Dr. Roach They are located in Minocqua/Woodruff WI. They are part of the Marshfield Clinic system. The only problem is the distance. My Uro. is pretty good. Dr. Neal. He is in Rice Lake. Which is the other side of the state. I hope you get some relief and a good Dr.

You are not alone; I too had a very painful reaction to DMSO. Vicodin and all kinds of other non-narcotic stuff didn't touch the pain. I agree you need another source of pain support than your uro's office; my uro office has the same attitude that yours does. I have found a family doctor who is perfectly comfortable prescribing for pain. IC is a chronic pain condition that needs to be treated as such, not ignored. Best of luck and my thoughts go out to you!

Most Uro's do not like to treat with pain medications. Talk to your primary. I would call the Uro's office back and tell them you can not make them (Vicodin) last. The pain is more than you can handle. Let them refer you to a pain specialist. Hopefully you will get someone who will prescribe pain meds.
    Good luck.

    Cath,
Thanks so much for your reply. The nurse called
back about 10 minutes ago, and said that they
will prescribe 20 Vicoden, and the dr on call for
my dr, says to take them only after the Rimso.
If I run out of Vicoden(she said if I can't make
them last) they will refer me to a pain clinic.
I told the nurse if there is anything else I can
do to help myself, PLEASE let me know. I get
the feeling they are rather irritated with me.

That is a good suggestion for me to see my primary
care dr. I will do whatever it takes to be able
to function through the pain--pain clinic, etc.

I do take the stick on temporary heat pads with
me to work---they help immensely, and doubt if
I would get through some days with out them.

    Thanks again,

    Stacy

    Hi Stacy,
You are not being treated properly for pain. Do you have a primary care physcian who will take over your pain management from the uro. My uro doesn't do long term pain management either (just short term related to surgery), so my primary care doctor has done it for the last 2 years. I had my primary care doctor refer me to a pain clinic and in the meantime he seemed comfortable to treat the pain, knowing that I would be under the care of a pain specialist as soon as I could get in. I am now under the care of the pain specialist and there is no difficulty in getting the pain meds required. Let us know how you are doing, in the meantime I would take the pyridium, and extra stregnth tylenol every 4-6 hours (don't let the pain build, take it around the clock). Pyridium is not for long term use, but is fine for short term use. Good luck, stay in touch, I'll be thinking of you.

    Cath

PS - Can you take a heating pad to work and use it while you are sitting down?

    DR & PAIN CONTROL HELP!!!

I am so frustrated I could scream! I am having
trouble getting help for the pain from my uro's
office. Had my 3rd DMSO/heparin instill on Fri-
still making symptoms worse. I am in constant
pain--trying Tylenol during the day with stick
on heat pads so I can get through the work day.
When its really bad at night, and for the first
couple of nights following teh instill, I take
Urelief Plus (pyrdium plus) & either 1/2 a B&O suppository or 1 vicoden or percoset. Unfortunately, I have no vicoden left (they work the best) and my dr says they will not prescribe anything alse for the pain. I never can talk to my dr, only the nurse who does the instill. Today she is havign the phys asst call me back, as he's
the one that says no pain meds. I am rationing
the B&O & percoset (perc does nothign for me( as I am so afraid. I absolutely cannot miss any work--my partner in the office is on medical leave, and I already missed 4 days in early Jan due to the disasterous cysto/hydro.
I do not know what to do to get help with pain.
I try warm bathes, heating pad, relaxation exercises, etc.
I also posted to see if anyone knows of any drs in
WI that are experienced with IC. My clinic Baycare Uro in Green Bay, sees 5-10 IC patients
a day, but I seem to know much more about IC than they do (and I only was diagnosed in early Jan!)
Any suggestions on what I can do for pain mgt?
I am at my wits end!!!

    Thanks so much,

    Stacy
