I take Vioxx for my osteoarthritis. I have not noticed any affect one way or the other on my IC. For me, this is good, as many medications cause problems for my IC.
IC & fibromyalgia since ~'77. Osteoarthritis since ~'88. Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (autoimmune blood disease) since '96. IBS for who knows how long. Interstim implant 2/04, revised 6/06, replaced 11/12 & again in 9/17. Antibodies to thyroid since at least '92 (finally diagnosed & treated 1/06). Asthma & vocal cord dysfunction 12/06. Hypoglycemia '07. Perimenopausal at 37, menopause at 45. Pituitary & adrenal failure. Osteopenia. Grade 3 sacral fracture by S3-S4 at age 12, healed 14mm out of place.
My pain management dr gave me vioxx to try for my myofascial pain which is horrible lately. It was WONDERFUL - except it reeked hell on my ulcer and so I can't take it. I wish I could, it helped so much. ~sigh~ Are you taking it for the IC? I wasn't on it long enough to know if it affected my IC or not. Only two days but for two days my muscles and bones finally felt almost normal.
I saw a report on 20/20 or some show similar and taking Vioxx is no better than taking 4 advil. They said it was a money maker because they give it so much advertisement on how great it works. If you have severe IC with really bad flares I couldn't see how it would help. It is mainly prescribed for patients as an antiflammotory medication. It will irritate your stomach as well as your bladder so be careful.
Vioxx gave me a stomach bleed, so I had to discontinue it. Didn't seem to affect my bladder for the short time I was on it, but it did help my myofascial pain. Wish I could have continued it.
Vioxx caused my blood pressure to become extremely high. I had to stop it shortly after starting it. The good news is that once I stopped my blood pressure went back down to normal.
