  • Talking to Doc About Pain Meds....

I have a great IC doc....and have been an established patient of his for 3 years.....but i am always nervous to talk to him when it comes to my pain meds........for the past year and a half, i was taking 5/500 hydrocodone, which steadily lost its effectiveness for me. during the first of January, i got really sick with pain off the charts and got lucky and was able to get into see him on short notice, where he determined i had a pretty bad bladder infection. He adjusted some of my other meds and instillations, but also increased my pain med to 10/325.

i have slowly started to feel better and my pain levels have come down. i have tried breaking the stronger pain medication in half, but really don't get any relief from that dosage, i guess b/c i was on it for so long....but the 10mg seems a little strong for every day use since i am over my infection.

i am seeing him tomorrow as a followup from my infection and flare....is it acceptable to mention the above to him in hopes i can maybe try something like the 7.5mg medication? i am always so nervous talking about pain medication to anyone...........i am not sure why i get so nervous, b/c he has always been very helpful and receptive......

Any thoughts or approaches are greatly welcome!

    Thanks so much!

    Meredith

    Absolutely!!

You should talk with him. If you have a good relationship with him he should know that you wouldn't be asking for stronger meds unless you really need them. Good luck!!!
