    My bladders been quite bothersome all day, I took an alkalizer in the hopes it may help, (didn't really) and debated putting off my walk. Well I'm glad I talked myself into going as it has helped. I think being out of breath is what distracted me from the pain. Sometimes it does make it worse, but like today it can help too. It's the only form of exercise I really like to do. I was out for about an hour. Not bad It's a good reminder that the rest of me needs attention too.

    Hi,
    That is so interesting. Like you, I have been afraid to exercise because of flares.
    If you don't mind my asking, were you doing the same activities before IC?

    That's very cool, bladder! I know what you mean about the having more energy, it's almost like a 'high'! It also really helps with attitude I think. I also know what you mean about those cravings for IC unfriendly foods! UGH!

    When I'm having a flare (a rare event now) I don't exercise as it only seems to make my flares last longer. But otherwise I exercise six days a week, three days weight training/ three aerobics. Recently I replaced my aerobics routine with spending those afternoons volunteering as a dog walker at the local shelter. If anyone is looking to take up walking, I have to recommend seeing if your local shelter will let you take a dog or two (or 3, 4, 5 etc ) along. -A win/win situation.

    I exercise 4 days a week. I either walk on my treadmill or I walk outside weather permitting. I don't know if it helps or not but I figure walking or other activities help to strengthen our internal muscles including stomach and pelvis area. Muscle tone you would think would be helpful but I haven't seen much about it really.

    Hmm. Perhaps I will check out some classes in my area, (northern Va.) and see if I can find something like what you're doing. Sounds great!

    I never liked yoga before, EVER. But I found a very beginning class that has mostly people over 50 in it and it's great! She knows we want it to be very basic, so she sticks to it. It's the first time I have ever liked yoga and I love this class and teacher. She works a lot on breathing and balance and strength, not tangling yourself up. I think that's the trick to find just the right teacher for you.

    That's so inspiring. Really, not just being nice here.
    I think your post might be just what I needed to get me off my ample butt and out doing something, even if it's just baby steps.

    That is great to hear. I, like you, couldn't stand the instills, stopped and started acupuncture and yoga. I even got private yoga help for breathing and relaxation. It has all helped so much. I can't wait until it gets warmer and I can get outside and really exercise. Great news! Thanks for sharing.

    I had a complete mental and physical breakdown in December. I couldn't handle the pain or instills 2x week. I stopped the instills. I was completely depressed about the chronic pain and being on a wait list for over a year to see a pain specialist. In January I did a 360. I joined two support groups at mental health to help me through the depression/anxiety of IC. Secondly, I joined a fitness challenge put on by my city. Yes...exercise! My program involves healthy eating plan, water intake, walking/running, water aerobics/swimming and circuit training. It is only two times a week for an hour each time. I am close to a washroom and my instructors know my condition. I am proud to say that I have pushed myself and exercised even thought I am in pain every day. Instead of sitting and watching my son practice hockey (on cold hard benches) I walk the running track and view him from above. I have even gotten to the point of running half the time. I am in less pain and have more energy. I have met some wonderful people in my groups that are struggling with their own chronic illnesses. Together we have a goal of walking. I urge people to try and exercise and work from something small and easy. My doctors are amazed and give me so much credit for my improvement. They say it is my "therapy" and I must continue because they can see the benefits. If I do flare...and yes I still do...I just take it easy and remember it to will pass. PM me if you want more details...I have been suffering with IC for a long time. My next goal is getting my diet under control...oh those cravings for IC unfriendly foods!
