  • Naproxen

I have seen some people post that naproxen is irriatation to people with IC? Why? I have taken it for years and it dulls the pain but never takes it away. My PCP would never give me anything else for pelvic pain and cramps...
    Diagnosis: IC '09, vulvodynia '10, fructose intolerance '06, GERD '06, fibromyalgia '09, IBS '10 and TMJ '09, PCOS '11, genital herpes '12

Current Meds: Butrans patch, welbutrin, lamictol, geodon, xanax, aldactone, linzess, topimax, trazadone and diflucan as needed.

Meds tried before: Elmiron, elavil, antibiotics, welbutrin, cymbalta, prozac, nerve blocks, instills, nyastatin, flexerol, percocet, naproxen (which was what I was given for pain for years).

I know that ibuprofen can cause problems for some ICers but I am not familiar with naproxen causing problems. I do know that long term use can cause some kidney problems. Most of the narcotics that are given have tylenol in them but recently the FDA had advised Drs to lower the dosage of tylenol in pain meds. Long term use of tylenol can cause liver damage.

In the past I had great success with naproxen for menstrual cramps. If it is working well for you and not causing any other problems then that is great. To be honest, for me, narcotics never take the pain away completely, just dull it to a manageable level.
