  • Fentanyl and Swimming

Hey, I was wondering if anybody knew if it was OK to wear a Fentanyl patch in a public pool. The information that came with it alluded to the fact that it was OK, but I wanted to double check to see what others say. Although, I know most ICers don't do a lot of swimming. Last summer my neighborhood pool stopped using chlorine and since for some reason swimming hasn't caused me to flare before anyways, I was looking forward to it this summer.

I know I have to stay out of the sun as much as possible and stay hydrated. Our pool has a shelter. I figured it would be OK to wear it, but on the other hand the information booklet is a little scary lol, saying how cautious you have to be about it if somebody else is accidently exposed.

I'll ask my doctor too, but the problem is that I don't have a pain doctor anymore. (They discharged me as a patient because they said they don't have enough experience treating the kind of pain I have). My GP is temporarily writing scripts so I can ask him, but he may not know much better than I do :/

    Thanks.

I can't believe it, my pharmacy is so helpful and ask them questions all the time, but this time I forgot! Great idea, thanks for reminding me :o)

When I was using fentanyl I would buy the bandages that were clear in the center and had adhesive all the way around. They are like the kind they use when they put in an IV. They are made by 3M and are not cheap but they helped me because I was always worried that the patch would come off. They would work really well for the pool.

Those patches make me worry all the time about whether it is on or not! I am glad that I found another pain med that works for me. I am glad that the fentanyl works well for you.
